Go back to the hairdresser ad get them to show you how to style it properly yourself. It is actually very difficult with short hair, which is why I grew mine long again, I couldn't be arsed with short anymore.
I chopped all my own hair off in a moment of madness at university. I walked around under a hat in the springtime til it grew to a respectable length. If it will make you feel better, get thee to a department store makeup counter and get them to do a decent job on you. You'll probably need different makeup to emphasise your cheekbones or eyes, and it will make you feel more confident too.

Right, I would advise that today you get yourself to Boots and buy some new make up, then get yo ass down to the nearest spray tan joint. Tomorrow go out and buy some dangly earings (to add interest in lieu of hair) and maybe a maxi dress. You will be looking good by monday!

Agree re earrings and make-up.
Long bold earrings. More make-up than usual - especially eye.

Lots of 'product' (gel?) - make it look spiky / artfully messy. Revel in the (lack of) time it takes to wash, dry and style.

I bet you look fab in reality, it's probably just taking time for you to get used to.

SagacityNell · 12/06/2010 11:49

Were you not around for McCluscky-gate? (or was it McClumsky?)

Anyway - another MNetter had her hair cut in the style of a TV teacher and was not a happy bunny.

Yes I think more dramatic earings maybe the way to go forward.TBh I know it is only hair and all that, but it can really put you on a downer when not quiter right.I usually have my hair in an Erin Oconnor look, but this is a boyish crop seriously severe.I did get it done by my usual stylist, she is usually fab but she eas a tad scissor happy yesterday.I think it should grow out in a nice shape, it is just very severe at the mo.A big red hooter from a hangover does not help either.I have resolved myself never to have a crop again but keep it at the usaul longish short length Of Erin.Bloody hell am going to a wedding tonight as well ,just thank God it is not my own

Also, if it is long enough for some pretty clips/ grips, that may help. The good thing is, it will grow, and hair grows faster in hot weather.

Magalyxyz · 12/06/2010 11:55

Oh boy I feel your pain. I had my hair cut way too short once and it was horrendously upsetting. I felt like a man. I had loads of trousers suits at the time and I wasnt very girly girly which didn't matter much when my hair was long. I had to start a new job the monday after my buzz cut and I'm sure everybody thought I was a lesbian. NOT that that matters, but the point was, I wasn't one. When I walked past people I knew they said, "whoah, hair CUT!!!" and their eyes popped out of their head. Everybody said 'it'll grow". Nobody said it suits you.

But the upside is that in 6 weeks it looked pretty good. So hang in there. See which happens first, losing five pounds or thinking hmmm, my hair has grown just enough to look nice again.

MrsSeanBean · 12/06/2010 12:03

Shoes are important also, I feel. You need really lovely, girly, high, strappy shoes. No matter if they aren't practical.

They will make you feel better (works for me if I am having an 'ugly' day, don't know why!)

You probably will need to go overboard a bit on clothes and accessories as your simple cut will allow for a bolder look and for your style to 'shine'. Also SMILE even if you don't feel like it.

Aw, hope you're feeling better soon and have a great night, hair notwithstanding.

darkandstormy · 12/06/2010 12:20

You had to bring up the McClusky!

I looked like hell.

My hair was traumatised. I got it recut but it was only tolerable frightening after the second cut. It then barely grew for 8 months. I think it was scared that if it grew I might do that to it again.

SagacityNell · 13/06/2010 23:33

This might brighten you up-

I've spent this weekend trying to go from black hair to blond. I'm currently bright ginger (much to the amusment of those around me) and because I had previously dyed my hair with henna the ends refused to colour and went slightly green. My OH literally fell on the floor laughing, he asked me to walk a little way infront of him on the way to the shops!

So I've also had to lop it off as best as I can as I'm too embarassed/skint to go to hair dresser I do look a little like I've let a small child loose on my hair with some scissors.

I would shave it all off but everyone says it would look horrible, especially my OH. Prehaps I could go for the GI Jane look by saying it's to raise some money for charity?
