Mulberry ink Alexa

I bought the Alexa a few months ago amid all of the hype and now I've no clue what to do with it!!! It's expensive enough for me to not want to wear it just anywhere, but too casual for when I'm going a bit dressy.

I'm at a loss. Shall I just pop it on Ebay and cut my losses? Anyone any ideas what the wear it with? I am a casual dresser, but like I said, I am terrified of wearing it cross-body in a casual way for fear of scratching the leather. How are the other Alexa owners faring with their bags?

Serves me right for buying an uberly-expensive bag that I wasn't 100% certain about, even when I was at the tills paying for it!

Use it, enjoy it, stop worrying about it.

joliejolie · 10/06/2010 23:26

Just cannot see myself taking it to the lido or Legoland!
I probably will use it over the years, but it isn't the most "me" of bags! I am unlikely to get rid of it because I am far to cheap to lose money on it. I just hate that it sits there unused.

Why not though? I often find (and this is true of bags and clothes)that once I start using things they sort of grow on me, equally things I initially love become less appealing.
If you could not stand to sell it then atleast get some use out of it rather than let it go to waste sitting in your wardrobe.

vinauchocolat · 11/06/2010 11:18

Oh use it. Wear it with jeans, with your everyday clothes. Wear it every day til you are sick of it then ebay it next year?

traceybath · 11/06/2010 13:14

I agree with the others - just use it. I have various expensive bags and just use them all the time - stuff them with nappies/snacks etc.

I think the beauty of mulberry is the leather looks better as it ages.

Also they will repair a bag for you.

MaineGirl · 11/06/2010 13:58

tey are selling for at least their shop price on ebay at the moment. i have the ink as well and i took mine to legoland last week lol. just use it, forget its a mulberry and use it as you would a nomral bag, it looks better with use and a bit of wear anyway.

joliejolie · 11/06/2010 19:12

You took it to Legoland???

I have an oak Bays that is beat up in every sense of the word, but it looks better for it! Just need to get Alexa out and start using her.

Yes - just use it as you would any other bag. They wear well and soften nicely with use. The whole point about buying quality is 'cost per wear/ use'. My mum drives me mad with frustration as she will buy something nice and then 'save it for best' - it's a crime for lovely things to lie unworn / unused IMO!

It will grow on you. Enjoy

I have an alexa and I agree with Mainegirl, you need to relax and wear it casually. I wear mine whenever the mood takes me. It goes to Tesco and can often be seen in Starbucks . Ink looks great casually as it looks ace with jeans. My friend uses her ink alexa for work with a navy suit. I have used mine loads. I was mortified when my toddler put pizza coverered fingers on it in Pizza Express but it wiped straight off. I have got some scratches on the tree covered metal bit on the end of one of the two front straps. But I take the view that I'm never going to sell it so keeping it pristine is not a priority. I feel that I have to wear it enough to get my moneys worth out of it iykwim. I can't justify spending that much just to let it sit, immaculate, in a wardrobe.

But,if you are going to sell it, move fast. Next season's colours will hit the shops anytime. Your ink will most likely fetch more money if sold before the new colours ae available.

on the subject of Mulberry, is it worth going to a factory store? does anyone know what sort of discounts there are and what the variety of stock is generally?

sootysmummy · 12/06/2010 13:37

By the way I would use the bag, it will look better with age anyway but if you want to get rid do it now to get the best price.

MrsSeanBean · 12/06/2010 14:49

Ahh - now this is my specialist subject!

It's definitely worth going to a factory shop, especially if you can get to Shepton Mallet. I am lucky (well, DH would disagree ) as I only 30 mins away.

The range varies a lot, they never know (so they say) what they are due to get in. I have in the past got a Mabel, Roxy, two Bayswaters and the mini Roxy (can't remember what name is) and they were all hugely reduced. The Mabel especially, it was/is patent pink and was apparently 'damaged' - but the damage had been repaired by the factory and invisible. It cost me £180 approx as I remember, was a couple of years ago.

I haven't been recently but imagine they would stock most styles, although probably in last season's colours. They also do 'seconds' and 'training pieces' - the latter @ Shepton anyway.

All Mulberry outlets do mail order, so it's worth a Google for the numbers to see what they have in (hang on, why am I telling you all this - will reduce the selction for ME?!)

sootysmummy · 12/06/2010 21:34

Thanks MrsSeanBean! not anywhere Shepton Mallet, not even sure where that is! but reasonably close to Bicester, will make a trip there soon.

MaineGirl · 14/06/2010 12:13

yes she really enjoyed her trip to legoland, more than the dc did! hehe.
use it, its far too nice to sit in a cupboard or under your bed. just think of all the admiring glances
