Going on honeymoon soon, Greece.

What do I need? Limited budget, about £170. I have some bits, a couple of bikinis, a few maxi dresses, one pair of flip flops, what else? Help!

some vest tops. they go with short, skirts, trouser or 3/4 trouers. daytime and evening. if you keep your wardrobe similar colours you can mix and match. Peacocks (online also) do packs 3for £6 i think and are pretty good quality.

KodakTheBat · 10/06/2010 12:59

Think it's going to be mainly beach/pool in the day and posh dinners at night.

I'm a size 10 with a horrible jelly belly.

Will check out peacocks, thanks

Something to take your stuff to the beach in (aka NOT a plastic bag!).

KodakTheBat · 10/06/2010 15:06

I thought that jamaisjedors, and found this here Do yu think it would be ok to take on the plane as hand luggage?

Had to click on this one. My husband packed my honeymoon suitcase... 2 pairs of trousers,4 t-shirts, 2 pairs of knickers and 6 pairs of socks. No bras, anything dressy or jumpers. Luckily, I had some shoes in the back of the car otherwise I would have spent a week wearing my wedding shoes, as we drove straight to an hotel for our wedding night and then on to our honeymoon the next day.

Hope you have a fab time .

KodakTheBat · 10/06/2010 15:22

Why did your husband pack your suitcase shockers?! I dread to think what would be in my case if my DP packed it!

We going straight to a hotel from wedding then flying in the morning.

I'm so excited!

shockers · 10/06/2010 15:45

The honeymoon was a surprise,... as was the case.

KodakTheBat · 10/06/2010 15:50

Awwww! Thats really nice!

OP posts:
jamaisjedors · 10/06/2010 15:59

Sure that would be fine on the plane but if it's a low-cost it will be that and only that (ie no handbag).

Can you close it a bit (to avoid pickpockets)?

shelleylou · 10/06/2010 16:11

Cardigans an-d leggings can get quite cool in the evening. Vest tops skirts, shorts. I took a few tunic tops that could be dressed up or down depending on where we were going/ time etc. Ballet pumps are useful if your doing a fair amount of walking. I took one pair of jeans but didnt end up wearing them at all as it was hot 29-32 celcius begining of may in corfu.

GeekOfTheWeek · 10/06/2010 16:16

Greece usually v hot so I go for light dresses, skirts, vests and flat flip flops inc fancy ones for the eve. Never heels as they are not good in the heat, plus some of the greek roads are precarious.

Where abouts are you going and when?

KodakTheBat · 10/06/2010 18:40

jamaisjedors - It's not a low cost airline, I've checked baggage allowances and they are quite generous. Been bitten by Ryanair before so I checked before we even booked! I still want to travel farly light though, so it would be handy to only take one big bag.

shelleylou - I was banking on just a maxi dress or similar for evenings, you think I will need a cardi?

GeekofTheWeek - Oia, Santorini. Beginning of next month.

OP posts:
GeekOfTheWeek · 11/06/2010 11:56

It will be roasting hot so I doubt you will need a cardi.

I would stick to light cotton items for the eveings.

Maxi dresses and flats for me.

KodakTheBat · 11/06/2010 12:37

@ roasting hot! Is it pretty much guarenteed to be hot in Greece then?

Might pick up another maxi dress and get some fancy flats then. I don't have gladiators, would they be a good investment?

Then possibly little beach dresses and bikinis for day lke this one, but from primark/new look to make my money go further!

KodakTheBat · 11/06/2010 12:41

Do I need a hat or would I look stupid in one like that?

Share out your stuff between you and your DH in two suitcases.

Mine went missing on honeymoon so I didn't get to wear any of the nice outfits I bought, plus I lost all makeup, wedding shoes, everything. And there was no equivalent of a Gap just to pick up some basics.

still had a lovely time though...

KodakTheBat · 11/06/2010 12:46

Sorry to hear that happened Nigella, but thank you for the tip, I would never had thought to do that.

NigellaTufnel · 11/06/2010 17:13

It is essential! I spent the latter part of our honeymoon wearing my new husband's shorts! Not the best...

GeekOfTheWeek · 11/06/2010 20:17

Definately share your clothes between the two cases. We always do this and there are 5 of us

Kodak, have been to greece many many times and it will be roasting in july. Trust me Definately just take the coolest clothes you can. I have seen some fabulous sandals in matalan for approx for £6 to £12. Seriously, really really nice.

My sis (23 year old style icon! Think ibiza cool person!) has got some lovely stuff from primark this year for her hols.

shelleylou · 11/06/2010 22:43

id only take a thin light one all i bothered with or a wrap just to coer arms. Most nights i didnt bother take it with me

KodakTheBat · 12/06/2010 08:40

GeekoftheWeek - I'm hitting primark, new look and H&M today. As it happens, now I've done some digging, I do actually have quite a bit of stuff that I could take! I'm going to stock up on new undies, bikinis, a pair of denim shorts and some beach cover up tops, oh and a beach bag. What do you think about a cowboy-sun hat?

shelleylou - have found a little white cardi that I will take.

OP posts:
shelleylou · 12/06/2010 11:25

that sounds like a plan kodak. I took a few sundresses denim shorts 2 lenghts and they were well worn. enjoy

GeekOfTheWeek · 12/06/2010 14:03

I love the straw hats. Apparently some nice ones in topshop but they are £££. Nice ones in matalan too for about £5, they also had some nice beach bags.

Where are you going for bikinis? I want some nice new ones but not seen anything spectacular yet.

salvadory · 12/06/2010 21:04

Santorini is lovely and oia especially so, you'll have a great time. Greece is hot hot hot. When I'm there I take 7 bikinis (primark do great ones) a few cover ups for lunch, (again primark have some fab ones in great light fabrics) flip flops for day, gladiator sandals for night, echo what's been said about no heels, oia is v cobbly iirc and most definitely has lots of steep windy roads. You could pick up some lovely leather sandals there.
I lived in maxi dresses/maxi skirts with simple vest/ bandeau tops, good for stopping insects.
The Greeks like jeans at night, I get a lot of wear out of my White ones
Straw trilbies and big sunnies a must.
Have a great time am v

Pinkmarshmallow · 13/06/2010 19:44

don't forget your suncream... waaaay cheaper to buy at home and bring with you than pay ridiculous prices out there for it.
