Alternative to vest top under low-cut summer dresses?

It's too hot to wear a long vest top under summer dresses but I don't want to expose to much flesh, especially at work.

Wondering if there is such a thing, like a cropped vest, or a bra with enough cleavage coverage?

I remember seeing bras that had a piece of stretch lace going from the top of one cup/ bottom of the strap across the front to the other but it was a few years back in M&S. That kind of thing would do- it looked like a fitted lace vest under clothes.

That's exactly what I was thinking, you describe it so much better!
Will have a look on their site.

Can't see anything like it
Any more suggestions, anyone?

Someone linked on here to a clip in bit of lace which went under tops/dresses to conceal cleavage but I can't find it (probably by JML )

But you could make one........

dwpanxt · 05/06/2010 14:05

Make your own out of a camisole?

bran · 05/06/2010 14:07

Buy some cheap lacy vest tops and cut away the excess? Uniqlo have some lovely ones in at the moment. I have some of these and they are good quality.

The bras with a lace insert tend to be mastectomy bras, - to cover scars etc. (But actually a Mastectomy bra is wearable for others, but you'd need to cut the pocket out.) But you could probably make a lace insert. Or they sell them here again it is a company that caters for women who've had surgery, but they'd work in an ordinary bra.

Great suggestions, thanks. LOL at JML producing such a useful item.

Love Bran's idea about cutting down a vest top.

ChippyMinton · 05/06/2010 14:34

Quite a bargain, shame they are so hideous!
Love the 'modesty panel' moniker though, most appropriate.

crop tops? Got some from Primark, lace trimmed but can get from Marks also

ballstoit · 05/06/2010 14:48

My mum constructed me some panels which clip on my bra straps and just cover the cleavage area. Since then I have seen them in a catalogue, but cant remember where. So, not very helpful, sorry!

ballstoit · 05/06/2010 14:49

Chippy got there already, they dont look to bad on (honest)

I quite like to see a bikini top under summer dresses in lieu of a vest top - obviously only works for a very casual look though.

eshermummy · 05/06/2010 20:49

I just bought a sloggi croptop from JL for this very purpose

here

I am only a 32C though so can just about get away with the little support it offers.

Now all I need to do is find a racerback version and my life will be complete

ChippyMinton · 05/06/2010 21:03

Aha, that may be just the job, eshermummy, as I am not well endowed of nork. What's the stitching like around the neck - not too vest-like?

Traceybath, I'm not sure my boss would approve of bikini tops as office wear...on the other hand...no,no,no.

PS according to my friend's (respectable Home Counties) mother, Sloggi is the doggers' underwear of choice I add this snippet only because it's Saturday night and wine has been drunk.
