Lost & found - what lost item do you mourn?

I am revelling in happiness. I bought a very special pair of sunglasses a decade ago and loved them. They were lost/stolen last year and I have spent a lot of time trying to find the style and locate another pair (they were limited edition and from Italy). I have thought about them frequently and imagined my life to be happier if I had them back. Today I found the style name, located a pair and have now completed the purchase. I am over the moon so thought I would share my joy!

Anyone else mourning a lost item of clothing?

Yep one shoe in the sea! Floated away...

exexpat · 02/06/2010 23:17

Not clothing, but I have lots of orphaned earrings in a little box - no chance of ever finding a matching one again, but I can't bring myself to throw them away....

Elgoogreven · 02/06/2010 23:17

I can't find my karrimor waterproof at the moment. Not stylish, but i'm getting wet!

janeite · 02/06/2010 23:19

I had a lovely skirt from Boden (I know...I know). It was purple with purple ribbons and it was stolen from the washing line, along with several other skirts. Nothing else was taken, except my skirts - this was over a period of about a month. V strange and I still wonder if I will ever see somebody wearing it (not a lot of Boden round here!) and what I would think/say!

MadameCheese · 02/06/2010 23:19

My DH lost a green die last week and I kept being told how annoyed he was. He's just found it again, now we can get on with our lives.

KickArseQueen · 02/06/2010 23:20

I had a really cool ( i thought) gold digital watch when I was about 8, it vanished!

Found some identical ones on ebay recently, but don't know if I can cope with going that retro!

monkeysmama · 02/06/2010 23:28

Janeite how odd!

Hey Marsha one shoe! Flip flops or proper shoes? Did you go after it? My dad once lost his glasses in the sea and insisted on looking for them (with spare glasses on) hours later. No surprise that we never found them.

yes, a maxi skirt - nicked from a washing line in the caravan park where I was living!!

am so pleased for you about your sunnies.

MarshaBrady · 02/06/2010 23:33

Hey mm! It was a stony beach and the shoes were plastic type VW ones. I could see it bob off but as dh was out looking for a replacement flip flop I daren't risk going after it - I was pg and headlines flashed before my eyes. I miss that shoe! Ds remembers it well

BikeRunSki · 02/06/2010 23:42

A silver star shaped pendant from a necklace. It was like a wire of posh silver wire bent into a star shape (like a Tiffany heart, but a star). I loved it and wore it all the time. Took it off to wear something more blingy to go out on a hen do, then left it in the house of a friend of a friend where we were staying in Cardiff (I live in Yorkshire!). It was only a tenner or so from Debenhams, and I have searched and searched for a replacement, but never found anything simialr enough to make me happy.

I still miss sunglasses I left on a bus in Australia (in 2002!), & a scarf I left on a plane. I was distraught as a student to lose a Diesel denim jacket on a drunken night out. Was stylish back then

janeite and LetThemEatCake, how odd that people steal clothes from washing lines!

LetThemEatCake · 02/06/2010 23:52

it's called snowdropping in Australia (where I'm from, and where the said theft took place) - 'tis practically a sport for young stoners.

ameliameerkat · 03/06/2010 09:11

Exepat - you could send your earrings to me!! I only have one ear pierced! (and yes, I am a girl before you wonder!) I'm also occasionally bad at losing earrings, but it doesn't matter as I effectively have a spare of all of them

I had a lovely summer skirt that I lost a few years ago that annoyed me intensely for a while, but my leg issues have since got worse so I couldn't now wear it anyway.

And I drunkenly lost a hat once in a club. (serves me right for not putting my hat and coat in the cloakroom). I loved that hat

Floopy21 · 03/06/2010 11:03

A long brown Monsoon cardigan, about two years ago. It was a present & I still miss it. I left it in the back of someone's car & it was stolen.

DontCallMeBaby · 03/06/2010 11:08

A nice purple scarf with glittery bits in (just M&S) that I left in the leisure centre while watching DD trampoline. It was just before Christmas so ended up being three weeks before I enquired after it with lost property, but they throw everything away after a fortnight.

Even more so, a rather silly fake fur and fleece hat (with earflaps) which I left on a bus a few years ago. I went to their lost property, the people there could remember it being handed in, but it had since disappeared, ie someone had nicked it from lost property.

On the non-fashion front, DD's teddy which she lost 2.5 years ago and still bemoans, and the teddy she lost yesterday which I dread look forward to hearing about for years to come. Argh.

A Liberty shawl I used to wear as a scarf in winter - dropped in a hideous studenty pub during a work Xmas do years ago. It was a beautiful pattern I've never seen again, in a light wool - they no longer make that sort of shawl, which is a shame as they were really warm without bulk.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 03/06/2010 11:15

Oh and also, a Missoni scarf lost at Deep Sea World one miserable rainy day. A pox on whoever found that and did not hand it in. It was a sale purchase but still, I'll never be able to afford another one, and I do rely heavy on nice winter scarves to keep total style crapness at bay.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 03/06/2010 11:16

Heavily, I mean.

lal123 · 03/06/2010 14:13

My Gran's gold watch which my Granda had given her on their wedding day Lost on a drunken night out..

My silver identity bracelet which I'd had since I was about 10 - left in a flat in Dundee when I moved out

steamedtreaclesponge · 03/06/2010 14:19

A gold and diamond tennis bracelet from Tiffany's - was a present from a previous boss and the only piece of real jewellery I owned

No idea what happened to it, think it fell off on a train or bus one day

I also really miss a silver and garnet ring that was my mother's that I lost at school when I was about 15.

And a gorgeous beaded evening dress that I left at the Trinity Ball years ago - someone must have had a nice surprise when they found it hanging in their wardrobe in halls!

MadameCheese · 03/06/2010 14:58

I think perhaps people who steal stuff from washing lines are either a bit pervy or sell it on ebay.

sharbieinbackofthequattro · 03/06/2010 15:03

I had a fab green wrap around style dress stolen from a line years ago - never found it but a bit strange to say the least.

My DD has a pair of crocs from Disneyworld (bought back by a friend) stuck in a local lake after wearing them for guides canoe session and getting stuck in mud afterwards.

Adair · 03/06/2010 15:06

A woolly hat from Monsoon (a gift) from ex-boyf's mum. Lost in the pub while I was drunkenly snogging my husband-to-be. So I guess poetic justice!

But mostly, my engagement ring. A beautiful, vintage platinum art deco ring with a diamond in the middle and four scrolls around it. Wasn't worth a fortune but oh. Lost in the swimming pool changing rooms in Hackney about 3 years ago. And I still blame the woman in the changing room next to me .

vinauchocolat · 03/06/2010 15:10

An amazing scarf that I bought in India. My most lovely and incredible scarf ever all bright colours and beautifulness. Lost somewhere in Kings College Hospital, never found

Oh and an engagement/ eternity ring with diamonds that DP bought me years ago- we had a row and I threw it at him and I haven't seen it in 18 months
