Top heavy? Where do you get your dresses?

I am going to a wedding in 2 month's time and would like to get a really nice dress after losing 1.5 stone. I am still an apple shape but not as much as before!

Only problem is, I am a size 14 (at a push a large 12 on my bottom half) apart from the bust. I tried a size 14 dress on in Monsoon yesterday, good scooped neckline style, but it wouldn't do up (side zip) on the bust . A size 16 would be too big everywhere else.

I know about Bravissimo, has anybody bought a dress from them before? If anybody's got the same problem as me, can you recommend any other websites, etc?

I have this dress from Bravissimo. It's light and fits beautifully.

There are some nice options at www.asos.com. Have a look!

Avoid the side zips like the plague - my sister is a size 10 with a fair sized bosom and often can only get into a size 14 with a side zip.

Bravissimo is good as is Phase 8 - I am enormnous on top and find their dresses are generously cut. Very nice stuff too.

I am very top-heavy (slim 12 from ribcage down, 14-16 (with 30J norks)) and I don't really wear dresses.

However, I have discovered a shape I can wear recently - scoop neck, bit gathered and T-shirt stylee.

Bravissimo OK but a bit granny for me on the whole.

this shape

ooh gherkin I've had that dress in my basket for a while only reason I haven't bought it is I thought I might look pregnant as it seems to give the manequin a bump

Nope jenduff, I've got 3 in different colours and find them v flatterning.

Shift-style dresses work for me (sz 12 with 32G boobs, apple shaped too). They usually zip to the back.

Empire lines are out - seam cuts halfway
through my boobs, and they make me look PG. Anything with Spaghetti straps/strapless are out due to bra considerations

My last 3 wedding outfits have been shift dress, from different places, and all were very flattering.

BTW I have gotten a dress altered before - found one I loved - bought size that fit boobs, and had it taken in at the waist/hips. That worked well, but did add to the cost.
