Chunky, bright digital watches?

I've seen some of these about - very chunky, 80s looking digital watches in bright, almost neon colours - though i seem to recall Jools Oliver having a bright white one on telly a while back [ahem].

Are these in fashion at the moment? - or has their moment passed? Do we like them? Where might I buy one? [I don't get out much these days, so i'm a bit out of touch ]

Thank you Mumsnet style police

I have a Baby G which I love, dunno if it's in fashion

CoffeeMum · 01/06/2010 08:22

thanks both, will go and check out the argos catalogue - a cheapy might be good if it's a fashion thing!

Look at the Debenhams site too - couldn't link, for some reason, but if you look at their Adidas, Red Herring and Baby G ranges, they have a fair few.

new look have some in, as do Oasis. although i think they may actually be analogue? anyhow, cheap as chips in both places and every bright colour under the sun.

Just a word of caution. I bought a green Timex one. It has (or had) a pretty pale green resin strap. It was the colour I especially liked.

Within a couple of weeks the strap started to turn horrible. It went blotchy brown in places and the green colour faded. I really hadn't been rough on it or used hand creams or done anything that would have resulted in damaging the strap. It seemed that the resin - or whatever those rubbery straps are made from - had discoloured. It can't be cleaned off.

I contacted Timex and they weren't very interested. I wouldn't choose such a pale colour again with a resin strap even though I think they look great. I don't think they are up to the job

I have a pink BabyG - twas £30 on Amazon. Has a "jelly" strap so sort of translucent.

It's not exactly what you're talking about though - I've seen the really bright neon ones in New Look.

I think the Toy Watches started it all. Just tried to look at their web site but it's annoying & over designed so I can't link.

MarshaBrady · 01/06/2010 10:21

Coffeemum what do you think of this?.

There's a few more expensive bright ones on there too.

CoffeeMum · 04/06/2010 10:10

Thanks everyone for all your replies. Sorry to come back to the thread so late - blardy kids taking up all of my time

Now,I'm actually being very fussy about what I want: I want digital display, not analogue. I also want vivid primary colour [or bright white] rather than Baby G style - though i do love Baby G watches too, it's just that this is my particular whim at the moment

Thanks for the tips though - i will check out Toy Watches, and those ranges on the Debenhams website.

Felicity - how annoying about your Timex - hope you managed to get a result.

Thanks again everyone for the pointers

Christ - didn't realise Toy Watches would be so pricey. I'm after a fun watch for the summer until i get bored, but i'm not shelling out £100+ for it!!!

this? it is certainly bright - and digital.

CoffeeMum · 06/06/2010 19:39

Thanks olderandwider [top name ] - but i'm after something where both strap and face are same bright colour. God, i'm a fussy cow - i always do this, get a really specific idea of what i want, and never manage to find it. But thank you for the link
