Do you think the old adage of not having a darker top than bottom still applies?

I want to wear a purple top and white trousers but I am prevented by this silly adage.

Is is still true?

Absurd. i have massive knockers and a relatively small arse. I'd look like a toffee apple if I applied this - my top is ALWAYS darker than my bottoms.

EldonAve · 31/05/2010 12:06

agree with colditz

faustina · 31/05/2010 14:07

I never heard that before. I think it would depend on your shape no? I always wear dark tops too

deaddei · 31/05/2010 14:51

Then you'd NEVER wear white trousers!
Go for it.

DecorHate · 31/05/2010 16:48

Never heard of it either. You could never wear a black top with faded jeans if that was the case.

usualsuspect · 31/05/2010 16:49

Never heard of it either

Stillcounting · 31/05/2010 16:51

Wot Colditz says. According to Trinny and Tranny reserve darker colour for part of you that most needs obscuring ...for me, it's definitely the top half.

Stillcounting · 31/05/2010 16:52

Having said that, my bottom half needs obscuring too

flowerybeanbag · 31/05/2010 17:00

Depends on your shape. I am pear-shaped so would not look good in white trousers and a dark coloured top.

LostArtofKeepingASecret · 31/05/2010 17:10

I'm sure I remember Caryn Franklin telling Dawn French that pearl of wisdom on the Clothes Snhow back in the 80's. So unless you are Dawn French cira 1986, I would ignore!

cruelladepoppins · 31/05/2010 19:50

I too avoid pale colours on my top half - make me look like an American footballer.
