Summer handbag - a la Cath Kidston but cheaper?

I really need something to get me through the summer, espcially on holiday in France. Please help me, canny handbag shoppers.

I'm afraid I don't have £££ to spend - max prob £50.

I like Cath Kidson and colourful fabric-type bags, and am currently using a Cath Kidston Tesco shopping bag but need something just a bit more robust.

I have to share this computer with the DC's, so if I go quiet after school pick-up, it's cos someone else is on Club Penguin

New Look had some CK -esque bags, what do you like - the spotty etc or the chintzy? CK had 20% off but I think it may have ended now... I've lost the code but if you ask for the easy living CK 20% off code someone may have it

EnvelopeDuvet · 26/05/2010 15:59

here is one I am thinking of, but obviously small

EnvelopeDuvet · 26/05/2010 16:03

Actually all the CK ish bags are small in new look, but I found the code - ELMG , it's 15% off online but it may have expired, it was May sometime.

fatsatsuma · 26/05/2010 16:03

Wow,thanks EnvelopeDuvet - that was quick!

Not sure about the New Look one. I'm after something bigger I think, and a bit fresher- looking iykwim

But thanks, we're on the right lines

Oooh, thanks for the code too, will have a look later. Off the school.

OOOO the code still works in the basket (unsure when you get to proper checkout), but anyway not alot of the CK bags are above £50/55 unless you wanted an overnight or the big tote one.

There were some in Primark last week.
Laptop sized with the wipe down coating. They were near the towels, think they are marketing them as beach bags.

EvilTwins · 26/05/2010 16:10

I got this one for our holiday to America and it was perfect - fitted everything in it for a full day out with DTDs (nearly 4yo)- including a day at a water park, plus the strap is long enough to wear diagonally across if you want to, or shorten it for a shoulder bag.

babyOcho · 26/05/2010 16:26

I have the same bag as EvilTwins. It's amazing, you can put so much in there.

The one annoying thing about it is that my wallet and phone never feels quite secure enough in it.

But I do love that bag.

fatsatsuma · 26/05/2010 17:53

I really like that one EvilTwins. Feeling seriously tempted now...

babyOcho does it not close securely? That would bother me I think.

I have the messenger bag too, it's enormous! I got mine in the CK sale for £25, but I can't see any sale ones atm.

helyg · 26/05/2010 18:09

If you can sew and buy this book it comes with the material and pattern to make a CK bag.

fatsatsuma · 26/05/2010 18:23

helyq I wish I could sew but I am a hopeless case

Another recommendation for the CK messenger bag - the strap is so comfy, and it is just huge.

Has anyone tried washing theirs yet?

EvilTwins · 26/05/2010 18:38

I felt perfectly happy with mine in terms of security - it does have a popper to close the top, and if you wear it across your body, the bag bit is always by your hand. There are two internal pockets, but you can't close them securely.

We didn't have any problems with ours on holiday.

AllBuggiedOut · 26/05/2010 19:07

Have you looked at Ollie & Nic?

fatsatsuma · 26/05/2010 20:17

Thanks - I've never come across Ollie and Nic before. There are some lovely things there - a bit different, and not too expensive.

I can't see anything that quite ticks all the boxes for this summer though.

i've brought from this seller before, nice size bsgs, well made, not too big, not too small. plenty big enough for purse, keys, nappies, wipes, mobile etc.
