I saw a woman looking stunning in a maxi

dress this morning.

So I told her how fab she looked and asked where her dress was from

Its this one and looked a lot better in RL.

It wasn't too full so didn't drown her. And guess what - she was probably late 30's and fairly short and she looked great.

they have some lovely ones in Monsoon, I may treat myself next month with my first proper pay after mat leave

itsybitsy08 · 26/05/2010 14:46

I love maxis!
Like that one, my friend wore it to another friends wedding, shes short and not the skinniest and looked fab!
I only wish it was warm enough to put one on its dull grey and raining up north today

How lovely that you told her - I bet that made her day. It's always nice to get a complement esp from a stranger.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 26/05/2010 16:03

That is nice

Whenever I ask someone where they got something the answer is always something like "Oh, a little boutique in Biarritz"

(this is NOT a point about me knowing lots of people who have been to Biarritz, but an example of me never being able to buy said dress myself )

do all these maxi dresses involve the baring of back and shoulders?

am far too self conscious to do that. plus im betting theyd look slightly silly on my 5foot 3 inch frame. and im a size 12/14.
think its a no no for me! but agree - looks fab on the website!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 26/05/2010 16:17

Vicar

I'm trying to imagine a maxi that doesn't bare the shoulders and I'm picturing Margot Leadbetter/nun

Hmm - that makes me think - ? Ozzy Clarke (v expensive)

Monsoon have lovely maxis this year.
Someone told me I look lovely today and I was so pleased (actually I'm feeling a bit meh)

Leadbetter style maxi for Vicar

Downdog · 26/05/2010 16:28

oh that is nice dress - I'd have a problem with the halter neck though - always end up with a stiff neck or feeling out of alignment.

I just brought my first two maxis - tried on loads and was delighted at how much I like them

My arms are my least fav part of my body, but I'm too old to give a shit these days. Spent years covering them up & being hot & ackward - now they are out if I want. I mean, life is short.

I brought this one to wear to wedding

and this one as backup but I can't bear to return it.

The cream one is a colour I'd never think to wear either, but it looks so great on. Loving the breeze a maxi brings
I forgot how wonderful it is to have some new clothes, not to mention pretty feminine dresses - OH is delighted I will be wearing something other than jeans

I need a maxi for BIL's wedding. He's hired a campsite in Suffolk for it and the whole family are camping there. It's a festival themed wedding (Wedstock). I like the first one but would love to see anymore.

a friend of mine had a photo on facebook wearing this

it does not look that great on the site but she looked stunning! I went to comment on the photo but about 10 people beat me to it!
She is a slim girl but not tall.

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/05/2010 23:35

absolutely LOVE that ossie clark maxi dress.

unfortunately the link for the leadbetter one is a maternity frock! that boat has long since sailed!

actually the more im going to the gym and the more self tan i apply the more i think i could manage a maxi with a little cardi over...

off shopping saturday, might be brave and try a few on!
