Please recommend a fake-tan that doesn't break the bank and is very easy to apply!

Hi there,

I've got my daughter's christening coming up in a couple of weeks and I'd like to brave wearing a skirt, but seriously - my fake tan attempts are awful and I doubt that I'll get chance to get a proper tan between now and then, considering that I work full-time and am VERY fair skinned!

Can anyone recommend a good fake-tan that is suitable for fair skin, will look natural and DOESN'T go all streaky?

A tall order I'm sure...

Thank you!

I've just started to use Nivea's sunkissed skin moisturiser and am really pleased with it. I only use it on my legs as I can never tan there, but the result is natural and no streaks at all. I put it on after my shower, it dries in no time and leaves no marks.

Hi Hurley,

Thank you for your reply.

I will be off to buy some of that this weekend. I've looked it up online and it's got excellent results for the price!

Thank you again!

dove summer body glow is good too. Very subtle, and good for fair skin. I managed to get some in the poundshop.

gailforce1 · 26/05/2010 16:55

Where did you get Nivea's sunkissed skin moisturiser from? Have looked in Boots and Superdrug this pm but no luck. Thanks

HurleySatOnMe · 26/05/2010 17:24

I got it in Boots. Was on offer too, so less than 3 quid
here, back up to 6 pounds now but still a good price

gailforce1 · 26/05/2010 18:11

Thanks Hurley - will go to a larger Boots tomorrow as I know what I am looking for now!

BallpointPen · 26/05/2010 18:18

I didn't like dove or nivea. I also didn't like johnsons or st ives, or simple, or olay.

There are two I like; garnier summer body and l'oriel nutri summer.

St tropez is the best but is also 3x the price of the high st versions. They do a gradual tanner which I haven't used and a 3 step fake tan that I have used.

ThinkingAboutSchemes · 26/05/2010 18:21

Hi
Is the Nivea fragrance free?
Thanks

HurleySatOnMe · 26/05/2010 18:32

No, it is fragranced, but is a really really lovely smell. Not good if you have sensitive skin though I would imagine, with the perfume.

ThinkingAboutSchemes · 26/05/2010 18:34

Yep I have really sensitive skin & am pasty as hell

mangoandlime · 26/05/2010 18:40

Nutrisummer is the bee's-knees! and I've tried loads.

Or Sally Hansen airbrush legs, great for a tan and covering up imperfections...fab stuff. wash off at the end of the day.

BaDaBing · 26/05/2010 18:42

The body shop gradual one is fab. Not streaky and a very even natural colour. Has a cocoa butter aroma which is nice too.

blossomx · 26/05/2010 23:39

Johnsons holiday skin is nice, I have really fair skin too, but you must keep up applying every day! But then I can't help recommending St Tropez, I use the mousse which is 30 pounds but so so so worth it! Apply it in the evening (exfoliate and moisturise first) and in the morning you wake up rather brown! Have your shower/bath and it turns out just right. They also do a gradual cream now i think, but try it, its lovely !

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/05/2010 23:46

try "st tropez everday" - its self tanning moisturiser - no funny smell, and its fab. never goes streaky and gives a wonderful even glow, comes in 2 shades.

i apply it about twice a week on upper body and legs. it costs a bit more but is worth it. (i pay about £12) but lasts ages.

its the best one ive ever tried.

HinnyPet · 26/05/2010 23:46

I'm trying boots soltan this evening.

I used the exfoliant and moisturiser all-in-one then showered it off. Then the soltan mousse. Fingers crossed, I'll update tomorrow with results.

Worst is loreal gel bronze!

blossomx · 26/05/2010 23:51

yeah i dont really like loreal! i would say st tropez is the best! i might try the st tropez then. And for exfoliator... 'Soap and Glory ' from Boots, it smells amazing and leaves your skin super soft ready to apply tan!

RunningOutOfIdeas · 26/05/2010 23:56

I started using St tropez everyday mousse just last week. I am really pleased with it - no streaks and the colour looks natural.

KillerCleavage · 27/05/2010 00:15

I've ditched St Tropez for Xen Tan. It's so much better, smells lovely and i think the colour is more natural. No streaks either. I use their everday moisturiser one and twice a week is enough for me.

mangoandlime · 27/05/2010 06:27

I've just tried vita liberata silken gel and it's amazing! No smell and a lovely golden brown colour.

DawnAS · 27/05/2010 09:25

Gosh - thanks ladies - although now I've got too many choices! Maybe I should run a poll!!

My sister has always used St Tropez but I just found the whole exfoliating thing so much hassle! I never do that although I do use a body polisher type thing everyday in the shower so hopefully that'll be sufficient. Having said that, I'll have to be careful when it goes on my hands as they're REALLY dry so it would look awful.

So, I think I'll start with the Nivea one, give that a go and see what happens. If it doesn't work for my skin, I'll maybe splash out and give St Tropez a go.

Thanks all!!

make sure you use a tanning mitt too ... (or any sort of material to apply the tan) just to prevent orange hands! thats if you use st tropez! good luck

BallpointPen · 27/05/2010 16:36

I think you need to experiment with a few until you find one that works well with your skin type and colouring.

nickschick · 27/05/2010 16:41

Before you try st tropez try st moritz its a cheapy version available in a brown mousse or spray so you can see where you apply it - results from me so far are looking good.

PS its about £3

blossomx · 27/05/2010 20:10

where can you get st moritz?
