can i wear black patent shoes with this dress and if not, what should they be with?

I have just bought this dress from ebay and am now in a shoe conundrum.

I will be wearing this dress to work and will have to wear a black cardigan over the top as I have a large tattoo on my arm that needs to be covered (i know i've just broken S & B rules by having the tattoo in the 1st place, but bear with me please!! ) The dress is a chocolate brown and fits amazingly, looks lovely and is very flattering for me (I usually wear suits and would like to go for more flattering, femine styles)

I have some lovely black patent shoes with a small heel that I can wear all day (I'm on my feet for 8 hours a day) but if these don't really go, what should I wear with them??

I wouldnt wear a black cardi with a brown dress. Or black shoes. Is it for now? Summer? Get a cooler colour cardi. a duck egg blue, or even a beige and get some metallic gold pumps to go with it, or some brown summer shoes

It's for now.....any suggestions for brown summer shoes, couldn't get away with metallic shoes have to be pretty formal.
