What would you or have you asked for 40th birthday?

Well the inevitable is soon to happen and I will reach the grand old age of forty . It's not untill the end of July but already friends and family are asking what I would like. However I am useless at coming up with present ideas for myself at the best of times.

Just curious as to what other MN's have recieved or would like to get for their 40th. I am not one of those people who have everything so all suggestions appreciated.

i'm 40 mid july, haven't asked for anything yet other than i know we're having a night away in cambridge, without the dc's!! will get some shopping in while we're there.

scurryfunge · 25/05/2010 11:33

a puppy?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 25/05/2010 11:34

I am going to be 40 on Sunday. (Still can hardly say it out loud!)

Nobody has asked me what I would like and I'm sure I'll get bugger all as usual.

I have organised a trip to Copenhagen for me and DH to see John Mayer in concert (love him and always wanted to go to Copenhagen). The DDs are staying with my parents for a few days and I've booked flights (BA, unfortunately!), concert tickets and hotel. I would suggest something similar - do something you wouldn't normally do and get others to pay for it! It's better than stuff you don't want/need or will forget in a few months time.

Already have the dog thing going. Two I think would make me look sixty !

I asked for (and got ) a family photo session with a photographer I really admire. Haven't got around to actually setting up the session (will be 42 in August!) but that's mainly becasue I am waiting for dd's front teeth to reappear.

Thanks for that GOHW sounds like a lovely thing to do hope you have a great time. Know what you mean about speaking it out loud can't quite reconcile the me inside head to the age of a forty year old woman !

What about some jewellery?

IsBreaLiomFion · 25/05/2010 11:45

Did think about that SF as feel it should be something I will have for life. Only have one nice piece of jewellery which is from my wedding day.

I'm 36. I've already told dh I want him to take me to New York for my 40th. He needs time to save up!

BridesheadRegardless · 25/05/2010 11:49

I said I either wanted a puppy or to go to Disney world. Dh asked if I was going to be 4 or 40.

I got a Pandora bracelet which I like but didn't ask for, and went to Italy for a week with DH and the kids.

I also got a new camera which i was very pleased with.

IsBreaLiomFion · 25/05/2010 11:52

You did very well BR! Was the Italy hol a surprise?

puppies are a popular 40th present round here (note to dh, no i don't want one myself though )

won't be going all out for my 40th as i did get a new imac at christmas which was a real splurge.

TooPragmatic · 25/05/2010 11:54

bicycle

krugerparkrules · 25/05/2010 11:55

I got some amazing gifts which included amongst others case of champagne and a pot of creme de la mer (!); some lovely things for my home which are scattered all over and i smile fondly at them when I see them ....

DastardlyandSmugly · 25/05/2010 12:00

I asked for nothing and got a lovely meal at Gordon Ramsay, a pamper session at my local spa, a brilliant new haircut and colour and tickets to see Private Lives with DH.

BridesheadRegardless · 25/05/2010 12:10

Italy trip was meant to be a surprise but I badgered Dh relentlessly until he told me what he was planning, and then took over the planning myself.

I am very hard to surprise, but I then complain that Dh never surprises me.

soapydishcloth · 25/05/2010 12:33

I got a piano, having always wanted to learn to play. I'm now working towards my Grade 4 exam with all the 12 year olds.

IsBreaLiomFion · 25/05/2010 12:50

What a fantastic present SDC I bet it brings you much joy.
