Ropey legs??

So where do you draw the line at showing your less than perfect parts? I'm a size 10 so far from huge but I have what I consider to be horrible legs. Chubby knees and horribly stretchmarked from weight gain in pregnancy behind the knees. The marks are faded now but still there. I bought a skirt that I love today but it is above the knee and is going to take a lot of drink guts for me to wear it outside without leggings. I wish I just didn't care. But I worry I will spend all day convinced people are looking. Would YOu go out with your bad bits on show?? And is there anything that will make my legs look better? I've heard about leg make up but the idea makes me feel a bit odd

Hurley ignore what others may or may not say. You have found a skirt you love. Life is too short to worry

I am a size 8 and hate my legs too (minor canklage but enough to make me self conscious). I always used to cover my legs but have developed something of a "sod it" attitude. It is very liberating Similarly, I have continued to wear a bikini (obv just on beach not on high street ) despite having crepey/austrian blind type skin on my stomach . So yes, with a little faked confidence, I can face the world with my worst bits on show. I just make sure my best bits are fabulously attired

Take a deep breath then go out and enjoy wearing your skirt sans leggings. If you focus on how fabulous you feel about that skirt, all other people will see is a confident and sexy woman, not some faded stretchmarks on the backs of your legs

HurleySatOnMe · 24/05/2010 21:35

God bless you tulpe
I have just showered and put on some nivea fake tan moisturiser to give me a bit of colour so hopefully in the morning I won't feel so bad. I do love it, and it is a bit silly to wear leggings in this heat

Wear the skirt with confidence, or at least just wear it! People will notice the skirt, not your legs (which, I bet, aren't as bad as you think)

I, unfortunately, don't practice what I preach - nothing on earth will possess me to go sleeveless!

TheBolter · 24/05/2010 21:39

I hate my legs too. Although I'm really slim everywhere else, my calves are quite muscular and sometimes I think my legs look as if they were put on the wrong body.

I exercise loads and try to make them look as nice as possible but I won't bare them as a rule - even with tights. It's such a shame as I've always loved the thought of wearing short dresses and skirts, and I find summer to be such a minefield in covering myself up. So much so that I have always dreaded what really would be my favourite season .

Just thought I'd add my bit, not much help I'm afraid though.

SixtyFootDoll · 24/05/2010 21:42

I have muscular calves and never used to wear skirts, but now I really ont care.
Apparently the Sally Hansen LEg make up is supposed to be good!

TheBolter · 24/05/2010 21:43

Yeah I used that once sixty, I have a lively varicose vein on my left leg and that helped to hide it! Will have to look into buying it again, I'd forgotten about it.

SixtyFootDoll · 24/05/2010 21:43

this stuf

AnyFucker · 24/05/2010 21:44

I have varicose veins that advance an inch down my legs with every passing year

and wrinkly knees

They are not bad enough to do anything about though

So I wear bikinis etc on holiday abroad

but in this country, nothing is shorter than knee length for me

TheBolter · 24/05/2010 21:44

Lively???? Fucking hell. Lovely I meant.

Although it has actually been quite lively in this hot weather. Ouch...

TheBolter · 24/05/2010 21:46

Yeah, funny how when I'm on holiday I don;t give a shit about what I look like. Am quite happy to wear short dresses then. But never on the school run or to work. I must have a facade to maintain.

AnyFucker · 24/05/2010 21:47

yes, I have a facade...

that the years have not had any effect on my body

but they have

HurleySatOnMe · 24/05/2010 21:56

I think I'd be OK with it on holiday too. Strange isn't it? I have considered putting leggings on for the school run and stealthily taking them off when I take dd2 to the park afterwards. Complete madness. To all you saying you wouldn't notice though, really ??
I saw one mum at the school gates today who had my issue and it was one of the first things I noticed. Is that because I am more aware of it??

I have pretty dreadful legs. Very pale, thick and chunky. I have the legs of a slightly overweight old man.

Today for the first time in years I wore a skirt with no opaques or leggings. The a-line shape is quite flattering and some sort of heels to lengthen my legs are a must.

I've got a couple of pairs of wedges that I can wear even if I'm with ds.

So my main advice would be to get some wedge heels to lengthen your pins.

TheBolter · 24/05/2010 22:11

Hurley, I notice every other woman's legs - I have done ever since I started to get conscious of my own.

But I have to try and remember that what's a big deal to me may not be to anyone else.

I have (sorry to sound boastful) pretty goddamn perfect slender arms and a nice flat toned tummy, so I don't think twice about wearing clothes that suit them, but I hardly ever notice them on anyone else. In fact, y friend has PERFECT legs, yet hates her stomach and tops of her arms - yet I always consider her figure to be perfect because she has the one, or rather two, things I wish I had, i.e. perfect legs.

Women eh???

HurleySatOnMe · 24/05/2010 22:21

I have good arms too (pushing a buggy will do that I find) and people have remarked on them but you're right, I don't notice them on other people, or even really on myself. I guess it is me noticing my crappy bits in comparison to other women
My legs have gone a v promising colour so am going to go to bed and pray the streak fairy doesn't visit me overnight and I can get my legs out for all to mock see tomorrow. Will report back

AnyFucker · 24/05/2010 22:24

I have a good bum, thankfully

we all have summat good...and summat crap

HurleySatOnMe · 25/05/2010 12:42

OK people I need a pep talk. I had the skirt on this morning. Then changed just before school run . I then walked back to H and M as they have the least forgiving mirrors known to humanity. I tried one on again in the shop, and the back view mirror didn't make my legs look bad at all. Hardly noticeable in fact. So I am leaving for dd's sports day in an hour. Do I be brave and put the skirt on??

OP posts:
LostArtofKeepingASecret · 25/05/2010 13:05

Yes, do it. You need to take the plunge sometime, todays the day.

Good luck in the mothers egg and spoon race.

HurleySatOnMe · 25/05/2010 13:22

O crap, the dread mothers race. I hope dd2 will be a monkey and will get me out of it. Sod that then [wimp emoticon]. Cannot wear it on a day where I actually draw attention to myself. Tomorrow. I'll wear it tomorrow

OP posts:
LostArtofKeepingASecret · 25/05/2010 13:45

Me and my big mouth. Wear the skirt, it will be a good excuse not to do the race. It's the excuse I'm going to use!

TheBolter · 25/05/2010 14:25

Hurley, I wore shorts on the school run today for the first time ever . I think it was our 'chat' last night that made me realise that I'm not the only one out there that doesn't like her legs, and actually, with a bit of fake tan on them and in the right mirror at the right angle (), they look bloody lovely.

So sod the rest of 'em. Today I've had an epiphany.

HurleySatOnMe · 25/05/2010 20:19

Yay for you bolter
Have come to the scary realisation that no, my legs aren't perfect. But they are normal. Group hug everyone.
I saw lots of legs on show today. None of them were at all Gisele-like. But frankly, neither were any of the faces
If the weather is good tomorrow I will throw on my skirt with abandon

OP posts:
tulpe · 26/05/2010 11:46

Yay for Hurley Hope you've got those pins out today, girl

Millie1 · 26/05/2010 13:20

Does anyone have skinny, skinny legs? Mine are just dreadful ... I'd love to wear skirts/dresses but they'd need to be mid-calf length and I'm not so sure there are any mid-calf length casual skirts, are there? Apart from the skinniness, I've varicose veins galore and now since having DTs, purple veiny patches as well. UGH .

Well done everyone for baring yours ... I just don't feel like I can go that far but by golly I hate my pins!

HurleySatOnMe · 26/05/2010 17:44

Nope no skirt today. Was too cold! I had on some new H and M leggings which I'm really disappointed with actually, I had a pair from there ages ago that were great quality but these are really thin and have bobbled already after about 6 hours of wear. My thighs don't even rub anymore!
I was walking behind a very pretty girl today whose leg situation was identical to mine. She looked fine, and I'm sure that noone but me noticed. I think a fake tan is definately the way to go, from the evidence on my legs and hers, it makes the marks less silvery and noticeable.
I took a picture of myself in the skirt yesterday so I could send it to my best friend to ask for her opinion. I've recently lost a lot of weight and I think a big part of my problem is that I can't see myself as I really am. I was a bit shocked at how slim I actually looked. So bring on the sun, I'm getting my bits out
