Jacket/cardigan/shrug/bolero to go with purple maxi dress?

Yesterday I found (in Next, where I'd only gone for some socks) a deep grape purple maxi dress that actually looks reasonable on 5'6" size 16 me (can't link as Next site appears to be down right now).

But I really don't want my upper arms and shoulders on display (on grounds of aesthetics as well as sunburn). Can any of you style gurus suggest where I can find some kind of suitable lightweight coverup? I'm not even sure whether I should be looking at more jackety or cardigany. And should I be trying to match the purple, or go with a deliberately contrasting shade of purple, or a different colour altogether.

M&S have some nice little bolero/cropped cardi type things.

I would probably go for a contrasting colour, and have other accessories in the same colour as the cardi.

Monsoon have some lovely little bolero shrugs in, they are cotton and £36. they have got a really deep pink fuschia one which i think would look fab with your dress.

M&S is a good idea, although the one I like most online is out of stock in my size. If I can get the time later this week to drive to the nearest big M&S I can see whether there are any in store.

The monsoon bolero shrugs are nice. They only seem to have the pink one online in a 20, though, so I'll have to do a trawl of my local Monsoons to see if anywhere has them in stock (I know my most local Monsoon doesn't because I looked there at the weekend, but there are a couple of others nearby that tend to have different stock).
