Long vests and tops.... where???

missjackson · 23/05/2010 12:38

I guess I have a longish torso, because all the tops and vests I ever buy seem to stop at my belly button, so I am forever pulling them down. I have plenty of stuff that are properly long, tunic-style, that cover my bum, but what I am looking for is just regular basic tops eg gap style that are a bit longer than usual.

Happy to spend more on nice quality stuff that will last, so don't hold back!

Can you help?

I just bought some vests from top shop which are lovely and long, they are in a really lightweight fabric, great for layering. I think this is it here.

They also have a tall range instore and online.

Primarks ones are very long... if you can get over the trauma of adding to their profits.

BlairWaldorfsHairband · 23/05/2010 14:01

Definitely H&M for vests - I have long torso and short legs, and they come down almost under my bum! They are really cheap too and nice quality, lots of colours usually, with bra-strap-style adjusters on the straps.

I don't know about other tops though, long line vests are good but usually aren't fitted - good for leggings but not for tucking in. HTH

I am a very long-bodied 5'9"

One of the problems I find is that the shops seem to change suppliers or cuts each season, so you have to keep changing where you shop.

this season I have found primark to have some great basic jersey spaghetti strap ones at £2.50. GAP's are long this season, slightly less fitted, and a softer material, for about a tenner.

GAP!!!! Marvelous. I got the lace trim ones and they are loooooong. I'm 5ft 10 and they reach my hips. About £12 too, whcih is great isn't it.

missjackson · 23/05/2010 19:28

Fab, thanks for all these tips. Glad to see GAP are doing some longline ones - usually their stuff is meanly short on me.

I've got some longline ones from Oasis which seem good, but I'm only 5ft 4...

The Gap lace ones hold their shape and wash better than most other Gap t-shirts (which tend to be dreadful quality nowadays).

Treedelivery - do you happen to know what colours they've got available at the moment?

treedelivery · 23/05/2010 20:27

I do, strangely. Am nowhere near a Gap but I did make a trip to one about 10 days ago.

They had, from memory, denim blue, navy, black, white, grey, yellow, muted red, maybe a muted purple.

Thats what I can remember anyhow.

They are a 'washed' finish, with a very narrow lace trim to the neck and arms. They are ever so soft and comfy. Me likey, and I never buy adult Gap.

NobleFrangipani · 23/05/2010 20:32

Oh, tree, I saw those today - do they fit well? They looked a bit saggy when I picked one up, but the colours and feel were lovely.

janeite · 23/05/2010 20:41

Thanks - I've got a purple one but fancy grey and white.

gillybean2 · 23/05/2010 20:44

Landsend do longer length in their women's range (or tall as they refer to it). Their stuff lasts and is really well made, worth the little but extra it costs.

They do fit well. I wouldn't have bought them, but I had zero time, a grumpy husband and 30% off. Am very glad I did. I'd get a good fit iyswim, don't size up - if you want a snug effect.

I heart the blue colours.

101handbags · 24/05/2010 15:57

Agree with poster who mentioned Lands End, I am same height as you and have bought several of the striped layering vests - they are a really good length.

101handbags · 24/05/2010 15:58

Whoops, sorry, I realise now it wasn't OP who gave their height.

brimfull · 24/05/2010 16:01

american apparel also do long stuff

missjackson · 24/05/2010 16:02

Thanks - have never tried lands end before, but that vest looks good, and it's on sale!

missjackson - glad you like it. What I would say is, they are meant for layering - the material is quite thin but two on top of each other look good (they also have plain ones which I haven't tried).
