Need some summer clothes and need to work to a tight.. ish budget.
I want to shop in the High Street so I can try it on.
I'm 40 something so it got to be right.
I want a full outfit for summer.
What should I be looking at?
I would like it to last for next year too!
What do you the fashion stylist think I should buy?
I'm off to do some work now, so I'm look forward to the replies like looking at a lovely magazine during a little bit of spare time

Oh I am watching this like a hawk.

Please give us 40+ 14+ something other than ghastly 3/4 length linen trousers and t-shirt with ruffle round the neck to jazz it up a bit.

I'm thinking about a maxi dress, wide leg linen long trousers and tunic tops.

im too short and dumpy for a maxi dress, wide leg trousers make me look wide legged, so watching this thread with interest too...

Not specific but try Phase Eight

duckyfuzz · 21/05/2010 20:32

have just gone from a 14 to 12, having been a 14 all my adult life, am 40 this year so know just where you're coming from!
fenn wright manson do lovely heavy wide legged linen trousers
ghost have some v flattering dresses in and their sale stuff is bargainous
I have a tea dress from boden that I wore today and had loads of compliments
gap curvy jeans are great
tops I'm not so good at, but fitted generally more flattering than the more smock like ones, I find

Have a look at cybil's capsule wardrobe thread for some ideas?

marcsalmond · 21/05/2010 20:40

go to john lewis and just look at the stuff there

tootootired · 21/05/2010 20:49

In what way is £300 a tight budget? (just typed that as Gin freudian slip there!)

Seriously I would do what I did last summer when I became a 14 from last summer's 12 and book in with the personal shopper at the biggest John Lewis in reach.

I ended up with a capsule of 3-4 outfits from FWM (including those linen trousers), Kew, East, Hobbs and White Stuff, and lots of ideas in addition to go on with. None of which I'd have picked out myself, but are great.

Ive just bought two lovely dresses from Phase Eight with the 20 percent off code. They have some lovely things.

Thank you I still haven't got the time to read this thread taking 10 mins out from housework. I'm going to look at Phase Eight as they are local.
tootootired It tight as it has to last for a few years! I only shop twice a year, unlike my sister who looks for bargains every week I really don't have the time for that amount of window shopping. I also read that most women wear about £1000 pounds of stuff everyday. I have never ever done that so I assumed I was odd one out. Note to self Stop reading fashion articles in The Times it way out of my league. [Blush]
