If you were about to turn 21....

and you were 6 foot tall, size 16ish and a Mum, what the hell would you wear?

I feel like I am dressing myself as a frump, and on the two nights I have gone out with DD I have worn the same (very unflattering) dress from Asda. :/

I need something nice to wear for my 21st in a few weeks, but I just don't know what. Am scared of looking frumpy, fat and also like I'm trying too hard to look young

Don't know where to start!

I would wear a big smile if I was 21 years old AND also tall! I would probably also wear a flattering, youthful dress - look on www.asos.com (you can see them being walked down the catwalk). And I would choose the style of dress based on what looks good on you. If you are like me, you have legs that are fine and a bit of a bosom, but the stomach is hardly fantastic. So I like babydoll / empire line dresses with short sleeves. And since its a party I would wear strappy heels and pray for warm weather.

That said, when I was 21 I wore turtlenecks and boy style jeans. What was I thinking? Now that I am many years a little older, out come the dresses. Ridiculous.

Your 21-you really really don't need to worry about looking like mutton.

victoriascrumptious · 21/05/2010 13:50

Wear this

this

with some heels or DM's

or

this

with a denim jacket

and try to revel in the fact that you are 21 and stunning

victoriascrumptious · 21/05/2010 13:51

fuck link didn't work. Anyway look at the dresses there and pick a bright funky exiting one

BallpointPen · 21/05/2010 13:52

I am 10 years older than you and I consider myself young and don't mind dressing that way so, really, don't worry about looking like mutton. I'm a lamb and so are you!

How are you celebrating your birthday and what's your budget?

How about the dresses from the tall section in topshop? I like this one with a cropped denim jacket

Or at long tall sally this is great - could be dressed up or down so you could get lots of wear imo

Or this is cute and more dressy/clubby

Any good?

If I were 21 I would wear a smile you could see from space.

CrosswordGeekWantsChange · 21/05/2010 20:23

I like the long tall sally one

The Topshop one is a bit too thin strappy, I absolutely love it, but think I would look a bit fat. Am a bit big around the thighs so would prefer something around knee length.

Am trying to find a non breastfeeding bra too, ha, not much fun. Was expecting to try on a smaller size from the 36G I usually wear and it fit. No such luck, am getting a bit bored of huge boobs!

Planning on going out for a meal and then out into town with all of my lovely friends (who happen to be thin, gorgeous and fabulous, despite several having babies )
