Children's sock sizes - bit weird, no?

I just bought new socks for my 3.3yo DD. She has outgrown size 6-8 (tall girl, huge feet) so I went for 9-12 (from Next). They are MASSIVE. They are meant to be ankle socks and they come up to her knees and the heel bit is up to her calf. Then I checked online and kids socks size 9-12 are meant to go from age 3.5-7 which just seems like a weirdly enormous age range.

So, does anyone know of anywhere that sells socks in a narrower age range? Seems that all the major stores do this 9-12 thing. The 6-8s that we currently have just won't stretch enough and the heel part ends up well under the sole of her foot by the end of the day which can't be very comfortable or very good for her feet probably.

I'm looking for thinnish cottony socks suitable for summer and preferably jolly rainbow colours not just pink and/or white. TIA.

Try a different brand? DD has some 6-8 from Tesco which are still quite big on her whereas the same size from Peacocks look a little snug now that they've been washed. She still has some 3-5 ones from Sainsburys that fit ok.

The Peacocks ones were rainbow striped, pink with spots and purple with multi-coloured hearts.

Thanks, Mejon. I was just gutted because I thought I'd found the perfect sock (am a bit of a sock saddo). DD had a random set of generous-sized ones from Mothercare which she only recently grew out of and which lasted her for 18 months. Yet I bought 6-8 from John Lewis three months ago and they're now way too small. I wish DD could try them on but they're usually tied in a bundle with those plastic tags. Oh, moan, moan, moan!

Next socks are absolutely enormous so I would definitely look for some somewhere else! I have a 5 year old DS who has a size 1 foot but the 12.5-3.5 ones from Next absolutely drown him...in fact I can get them on they are so big!

Tesco's seem to be the most accurately sized socks so tend to get most from there now...and yes Im a sock saddo as well lol!

Thanks. I went to Next today, ihearttc, and bought the same socks in a size down. They do look pretty big still so I'm hoping you're right about that. DD has yet to try them on. I also have a cunnng plan to keep them stretched after washing by attempting to put them on my own feet. I used to wear DDs woolly hat to keep it stretched out and it lasted her for ages!
