Right here goes...my natural hair colour is medium brown though i have been colouring it since i was about 15. It has always been it pretty good condition so a couple of years ago i went down the blonde route and staring colouring my hair at home. I used Clairol Nice ans Easy Light Ash Blonde. The result was great for about a year then i noticed it was getting very gingery, it got to the stage that my dh insisted i go to the hairdressers and have it properly coloured.

The first time i had an all over tint with an ash toner. i was disappointed to note that although it looked better, my roots were pretty ginger especially after i paid considerably more than i would normally.

The second time i went, six weeks later, i asked for a bleach because i read on the internet that a tint will not lift your hair enough. The hairdresser was a bit reluctant but did it anyway. It was a bit yellow but all traces of ginger has gone.

The third time, again six weeks later, the hairdresser suggested that since the bleach had got rid of all the orange that i should go back to a tint because it would be kinder to my hair. i reluctantly agreed. She put the tint over all my hair and the colour is lovely...apart from my ginger roots. In fact i have a band of orange either side of my parting and since my hair is all one length i think it stands out.

Throughout this, dh thinks i am a nutter, that my hair looks fine and it is all in my head. I just don't want to go the next five weeks with this orange band.

I rang the hairdressers today and they told me to pop in so they can have a look but i am now worried that i will go in and they think i am some self obsessed woman and there is no problem with my hair. Will the lovely girl that does my hair think i am a bitch and should i just get over the fact that trying to achieve a natural looking blonde mane is only for the super rich with the most brilliant hairdressers to hand?

Urgent help needed they are expecting me in the next couple of hours.

Could you have blonde highlights put in rather than an all over colour?

I'm not really very clued up on the whole hair colouring thing but have been blonde now for just over a year and have had a few disasters so am now speaking as someone who is finally happy.

First hairdresser put all over colour on and it was orangey. Second hairdresser lightened it and it was a lovely colour until we decided to go lighter and it went a funny peach colour. Went to another hairdresser who suggested hightlights. Looked really good but she did the highlights with these sticky plastic things instead of foil which meant she couldn't get close enough to my scalp so I was always left with a band of dark down the middle of my head.

New hairdresser is fab! She puts several colours on my hair ranging from a dark blonde to a lighter one around the face and uses foils so no roots!

In your position I'd find a photo in a magazine of hair I liked and ask if it was possible for them to recreate it for you.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your response. I popped back to the hairdressers and they were lovely and friendly and put it right with some bleach on the roots only.

My hair is now an all over blonde and i am relieved there was no awkwardness at the hairdressers. It was no bother to them and all done free of charge.

I would urge anyone unhappy with a cut or colour to get back in contact with the hairdresser so they have the opportunity to sort it out.
