Do you SUNBATHE

I mean, do you get all the kit on, lounger, book, slather on the oil and lie down

No
I like to look pale. I have never been on a sunbed and never applied fake tan.
We don't do holidays abroad either. I did wear a bikini on the beach in Saudi Arabia once and burnt the tops of my feet.

bellissima · 15/05/2010 09:04

Briefly (assuming you are talking about in hot climates!). Oil on body, factor 50 on face. Then I get bored. And can't read/hold the book comfortably. And get too hot. So I put some clothes on and wander off for a coffee on a shady terrace....

(I always have a St Tropez before I go. I'm the person who gradually fades during the holiday)

overmydeadbody · 15/05/2010 09:07

I have done, in hot climates, but have never slathered on the oil, more likely to slather on sun screen.

Bu tI would have to be by the sea or by a pool, so I can have regular breaks and actually do something else, I get restless just reading a book for long periods of time and would rather be active.

I haven't 'purposefully' sunbathed to get a tan since I was a teenager.

OrientCalf · 15/05/2010 09:15

no I get bored

and also years ago when I was travelling for a few months I got really brown and then someone told me how much I was damaging my skin and it scared me

BridesheadRegardless · 15/05/2010 09:29

I used to.

I love to read, so sunbathing is raelly just a chance to sit and read (I look up occasionally to make an intersted noise about the DS's activities) but I now do it covered in spf (and fake tan) with a big hat on in the shade.

SuSylvester · 15/05/2010 09:54

oh yes when abroad or in bourney mouth

SuSylvester · 15/05/2010 09:54

last year i went to la playa de dorset ALONE
with a salad and a book
swam, read , ate, lounged, returned to pickup boys from school with sand still on me

Pennies · 15/05/2010 09:56

No. I've had done and have paid for it with getting skin cancer twice.

SuSylvester · 15/05/2010 09:58

hmmmt wo nto directly linked any more

hugebelly · 15/05/2010 13:08

I used to, but now I use a factor 50 everyday and have stayed out of the sun for many many years.

I don envy those with a tan, but in the long run, I know it's not worth it.

CantSupinate · 15/05/2010 13:12

I.Do.Not understand why people think that a tan looks good. It just looks like leather skin to me (says a native Californian who has thought this way for 25 years!)

bronze · 15/05/2010 13:13

No I get too bored

badgermonkey · 15/05/2010 13:15

Yes, but in the shade with lots of suncream on! I do like being out in the warmth with a book and a cold drink, but I don't do direct sunlight.

SleepingLion · 15/05/2010 13:20

I love to go somewhere hot, slather on the sunscreen and lie on a lounger under a huge parasol reading. And reading and reading and reading...

But I like to be by the pool/sea so occasionally I can get up and work off some energy!

NomDePlume · 15/05/2010 13:22

no, I used to but I get too hot and antsy, plus I'm scared of wrinkles and skin cancer now.

when we go abroad, I do sit on a lounger in swimmies with a book but am sporting SPF 25 and sitting in the shade.

Also DD is very fair skinned (red head) and so sunbathing is an extra risky pass time for her, so it's not a habit I want her to see as normal.

vintage · 15/05/2010 13:37

i got some sun damage in my chest with 3 days in Cornwall a few years back you can actually see the marks of the jeballah type top i was wearing. I also have quite a lot of wrinkles around my eyes so i dont sunbathe at all now without big floppy hat and good sunglasses. I prefer to face away from the sun and i am not interested in a tan. I would like a nice warm sunny day here though

Yes! I've perfected it as a form of art.

I was born to holiday, my garden is set up for sunbathing and it soothes my soul.
