What about this dress?

I'm not a S&B regular, as I am not very fashionable, so please be gentle with me!

I've walked past my local phase eight and admired this dress in the window. It's also in a nice grey.

I tried it on today but I was alone so have no feedback.

I'm 43, 5'3" and a curvy size 14 with reasonable norkage. I am on a major health and fitness drive so although my arms and legs are chunky they are toned.

But ... I have reddish hair and fair skin. Is a purple knee length dress a no-no?

I need some fashion advisers. I feel as if I haven't worn anything interesting since I had children (4, 6) so I don't feel I know any longer what's right, beyond my tiny mummy comfort zone.

depends what you have on the bottom half of you to be honest. its not my personal style but if i was wearing it i would wear it with grey leggings and boots i think. and possibly a chunky grey cardy too. but thats just me. if you buy it do you have stuff to wear with it or would you need to purchase an entire outfit?

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:36

hmm. i think theres too much material in it for some one of your height.

You run the risk of looking like you are dressed up as a witch to go trick or treating. The colour is great, the cut is baaad.

go for something simpler

noddyholder · 12/05/2010 22:40

thisis nice maybe with footless tights and 40s stle heels in a lovely grey?Agree that the other one is a bit fussy and fancy dress like

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:41

ay oop nodders

noddyholder · 12/05/2010 22:42

hellooooo skinny

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:43

AngryPixie · 12/05/2010 22:45

I tried it on and loved it but I'm 5'8

Would wear it with leggings and boots.

estuardo · 12/05/2010 22:49

I love it

estuardo · 12/05/2010 22:50

its a good length for a short girl!

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:52

too much fabric though

noddyholder · 12/05/2010 23:04

I think it looks a bit 'theme' partyish iygwim.lovely colouur though I would look huge in it!

I really like it too I think it would flatter most figures

IsBreaLiomFion · 13/05/2010 11:13

Sorry GoldenRosette I don't like it at all and think you would need to be quite tall to pull it off. Love Phase Eight stuff though, maybe go fo something simplier with more classic lines. Good Luck

TheGoldenRosette · 13/05/2010 21:01

Thanks. I think you've managed to frighten me off. After all, if it had been perfect, I'd have known!

The length should have been great for a short girl but somehow I couldn't see it either with leggings or without.

Pixie, maybe you were the tall woman behind me in the shop!

janeite · 13/05/2010 21:06

Oh dear no. I am 40, 5'2 and a curvy size 12 and that would look frightful on me. It also reminds me of Granny Weatherwax, sorry. There is too much fabric and if you have norks it would make them look vast, I think.

Magaly · 13/05/2010 21:10

not keen on it. although in the 'you may also like' section a much simpler grey dress with a black rim, and a kind of simple buckle just under the bust (which is v-shaped) is £68. That dress doesn't have razzmatazz on the hangar but it would be much more flattering.

Magaly · 13/05/2010 21:11

this would be very flattering on you I think

fishie · 13/05/2010 21:18

its a sort of all saints rip off. op i think you shold pursue something with similar arms, long and tight, but not the wafflage.

have you seen ye olde m&s drapey no good if back hamsters but otherwise flattering.

TheGoldenRosette · 13/05/2010 21:30

I've banned myself from All Saints until I'm a small size 12 (not a Boden one, I'm already that)!

I don't like either of those, sorry. I don't actually need a dress, or any clothes, just idly window shopping.

OP posts:
Magaly · 13/05/2010 21:30

that didn't work.

did anybody see the m&s coat on noemie lenoir this morning and think, mmm like that mac.

noddyholder · 13/05/2010 21:34

That model tried to commit suicide

Magaly · 13/05/2010 21:36

Yes I know. And I thought, nice coat. I am bad. Obviously it is sad. She has a child. I can't imagine committing suicide over a mere man when you have a child. Hope she feels stronger and happier soon.
