first time for us
never thought we would ever do a cruise , for some reasons it has never appealed but friends have convinced us
so july
2 weeks
western med
P&O Oceana

4 formal night -men in black tie -arf
4 semi-formal
4 semi cas

I am thinking linen trew and nice top for semi cas??

nice dress for rest of them
I am not inti major formal wear at all.

So far I have bought this

I hate dresses with no shoulders
and need stretchy for ample bosoms

Not cruise as such but have done transatlantic and am again this year. You don't have to dress up, there will be countless other places to eat if you don't fancy the formal malarky. Most people wore black for the formal night but, tbh you only need one black dress and a couple of different sparkly add ons. Semi formal would suit that dress you linked to.

Linen trews sound ok for semi cas.

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:47

gg you know you want to wear a captain style boxy navy blazer with gilt buttons and flyflots. plus elasticated waisted white trews

Go for it! be free!

Rockbird · 12/05/2010 22:49

This would be very good for during the day as you take your morning constitutional round the deck.

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:51

oh a leisure suit!

arf
will you be at the captains table

cyb · 12/05/2010 22:51

It is wrong that I find paul Nicholas totally fanciable in that hat?

brimfull · 12/05/2010 23:00

hahaha
I will definately be shmoozing my way to the captains side

maybe wearing soemthing like this

You need those January editions of American Vogue and Harpers. The ones that are full of 'Resort'...

(Must admit I always look at the pics of day-glo orange maxis and think ah yes, teenagers modeling clothes for affluent pensioners from Long Island...)

Anything goes ggirl.
We have cruised a couple of times with the kids, and had a pretty good holiday. First time was Oceana and then earlier this year on Ventura. We preferreed Oceana.
There really was a mixture of dress - although everyone made an effort for the formal nights. They also have lot of (too many!!) photographers around, and it does give you the chance to get some photos of you looking glammed up!
Where are you going?
Have a brill holiday.

brimfull · 13/05/2010 10:11

we are doing western med
so rome/seville/monte carlo and a few others can't remember now
am praying ds will go to the kids club -he's 7 and dd is 18 so if he's happy with kids to play with it will be great

Presumably you'll be stopping at Civvittavechia (??) for Rome - it will be a long day, but well worth going into Rome.
Is Seville from Cadiz? We actually really enjoyed Cadiz itself, went on the open top bus tour - so a lot cheaper that the P & O tours (which can be pretty expensive!).
I'm sure your DS will have fun in the Kid's Club - that is actually a really good age for them to join in.
DS (18) and DD (17 next week) really enjoy cruising, because there's always things to do.

brimfull · 13/05/2010 11:14

thanks for the tips
yes sounds like the same stop offs
the organised trips do look £££ so we'll probably be avoiding those
we were planning on the open top bus thing in Rome and Barcelona and now Cadiz too so thanks!

Just to confuse things - we did the P & O cycle tour in Barcelona, which was quite good.
