Trousers for pear shapes

Hi, I am returning to work soon after my second (and final) maternity leave, and I want to buy some new work stuff as everything I have is pre both children and shows it. Ideally I want trouser suits, but I am a curvy 16 on the bottom - small waist in comparison to fatty hips and thighs. I like wide legged trousers but may just be stuck in a rut - sometimes there is a tendency to look like I have an elephantesque saggy bottom in them though.

Can anyone in a similar position recommend shops that suit them please - I have a limited amount of time to shop and don't want to waste it getting depressed.

How smart do you have to be for work? Do you really have to do suits? I am total pear-bum too but often go for smart very dark denim stretch bootlegs for work (Gap are my faves - Skinny Bootlegs I think they are called) with shirt / long cardie to cover bum or twinset type affair. Other than that Next wide-leg, button on side are kind to fat bits. TBH though I mainly live in an array of smart dresses and cardies as much easier to disguise my flabby bits

Yes I do have to be smart unfortunately - I'm a lawyer in the City and suits or equivalent (I could get away with black trousers and a coloured jacket for example) are in our official dress code.

At home I like the Gap Curvy jeans - will have to try the skinny bootlegs then, have never given them a go because I shy away from anything "skinny" - hence the elephant behind problem.

Yes I was amazed by the Gap skinny bootlegs - but they have that all important 'stretch' in them

You probably need someone richer / smarter on this thread than me

For work I have a pair of 'Jackson' style trousers from Banana Republic that are very flattering - the best I have tried by far! You can get a matching jacket as well for when you need it.

Try Austin Reed's wide legged trousers perhaps? Very smart and "City-ish" and inevitably come with a suit jacket. I've got a few pairs and they are very flattering and wear well.

Back to Gap though, I have a smart black pair of their curvy trousers. They are wide leg rather than bootleg.

Thanks v much all (and don't be daft Sparkletastic, you may have changed my jeans-life forever). I didn't know Gap did smart curvy trousers - clearly I need to go in and look a bit harder.

watching this with interest. small waist, big bum and big thighs. can rarely get any trousers to fit and live in skirts for work.
