I am having a clear out for the charity bag this week

My wardrobe is full.

Clothes that currently don't fit but I am exercising and losing weight so may do in the next year.

Clothes I haven't worn in a long time because I haven't had a reason/occasion too. Some were fairly dear, some not so.

I love the idea of just having clothes in my wardrobe that I love and fit but also don't want to get rid for the sake of it.

Help please

Oh I do love a wardrobe clear out.

Right you need a couple of hours and a mirror and/or an honest friend.

You need to try everything on and forget how much stuff cost - if its out of date/no good - it needs to go.

I sort stuff into piles and rotate my wardrobe so by now all my winter stuff has gone away into plastic boxes.

Have the following piles:

  • charity/second hand agency/ebay
  • maybe
  • needs cleaning/repairing
  • keepers for spring/summer
  • keepers for winter so needs storing

On the maybe pile keep stuff you're trying to fit into but accept that if some of it is pretty old by the time you fit into it - you probably won't like it. I've found this happens a lot.

Does that help at all or did you want advice on particular items?

That is great, thanks .

I will have a quick look through now but can't do a try on session as no time. I do try and put out of season clothes away but it is easier to do that in the winter as I will never need my summer stuff, but in the summer I might need my winter stuff!

I have work suits in my wardrobe that I haven't worn for 9 years - but I keep thinking that I may get a fabulous job any day now and need them (and they will be back in fashion soon as 80s are in fashion right now!)

traceybath · 10/05/2010 13:42

I think things date and suspect 9 year old work suits really need to be binned/charity shopped.

But I'm ruthless.

I still have my pre-DC size 8 clothes (6 years on) in the hope that maybe one day I will fit back into them.
I'm considerably bigger than size 8 now and doubt they will ever fit again, but a girl can only but try and dream!

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 10/05/2010 13:54

I am about to start.

If only it was as easy to clear out my head.

If I only had stuff in my wardrobe that still fitted and I thought I looked really good in I'd have about three tops and some dust.

traceybath · 10/05/2010 13:54

You see - I've finally lost all my baby weight after being off-on pregnant/bf for years and theose jeans you keep on the off-chance you'll get back into them.

Well - they're so the wrong shape and look frumpy and out of date.

Bin them

I wear my 9 year old work suits every day .... I'm not helping am I.

My problem is the short skirts/shift dresses I used to wear to work in my 20s which I was in denial about for so long that I've now decided to keep for DD to wear (she's nearly 8).

DramaInPyjamas · 10/05/2010 14:00

I think this thread has inspired me and gave me the kick up the arse I need to go and sort out my clothes once and for all. Thanks! (am going to be left with nothing to wear now though! haha!)

All done but I didn't get rid of much as there wasn't anything to g really.

Just put a load of too young for DS2 books and toys in the loft though.

Clearing out the house while I clear out my head.
