what do you think are the best? I haven't got much money to spend and one of my two pairs now has a chuffing great hole in the knee which isn't repairable. i usually end up in gap with bootleg jeans but i fancy something different this time, at least a different shop! i'm 5'4, size 12 and don't suit skinny jeans. suggestions would be gratefully receieved. i quite like carpenter jeans and bootleg styles, generally dark washes.

Marks & Sparks basics 12 pound jeans are the finest jeans I have had in ages and I've seen them recommended on here since. About to buy third pair.

yankbabymum · 09/05/2010 21:27

I favour Next for jeans. They're a good price and usually fit my bottom nicely!

smallishsheep · 09/05/2010 21:27

Primark. Best money I've ever spent on jeans, 8 pounds a pair. Practically live in them and not worn out a pair yet.
If you want to spend a bit more, Oasis jeans are also OK, but in terms of quality, there's not much difference to be honest

smallishsheep · 09/05/2010 21:29

Ooo, M and S £12 jeans were great when I was a size 18 last year. I think they don't suit smaller sizes though tbh. I tried on a pair last week and realised I didn't need that kind of massive high rise anymore and they just looked ridiculous

cyb · 09/05/2010 21:32

Primark

Riponite · 09/05/2010 21:36

I buy a size 10 long and when I first got them two friends asked if I had lost weight. I need the high rise, even though I have quite a decent tummy, considering.

NinjaChipmunk · 09/05/2010 21:51

thanks for the suggestions, i like some of the ones on the oasis website and a couple from m&s. i thought i'd check out the topshop range but i now feel very old and i'm only 35. esprit had some nice looking ones on their website so i'm feeling optimistic its not going to be a nightmare.

just one more question - how many pairs of jeans do people actually own? i had 2, now down to one. this isn't enough is it?

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 09/05/2010 21:56

Uniqlo

smallishsheep · 09/05/2010 21:59

That's becasue you too are now a mere slip of a thing cyb.
Riponite, reading back my comment sounded awfully rude. It wasn't meant to be It's just that for me obviously what suited 5 stone ago is not a good look now

Riponite · 09/05/2010 22:02

No offence taken. They suit my shape, and the low waisters look ridiculous on me!

Topshop Martha jeans are straight leg, flattering, comfortable - I am petite, so I find the regular length more generous (12 in petite more like a 10 in regular imho).

I have jeggings from Tesco and New look(don't like them), as well as New Look straight leg and boot cut - problem with New Look is that they never keep a certain style for long, so stock up if you like them.

I always liked River Island for flattering/ good range of styles, but I don't like the bling/rips/bleaching thing they do it is all too much for me.

I want to like Fat Face, but I find the denim a bit thin and something about the cut of them always annoys me.

Monsoon has got a little boring sadly, but they used to be okay.

Casmama · 10/05/2010 00:18

I have about 9 pairs of jeans but in my defence most are from Asda or Tesco with the most expensive being dorothy perkins sale. Probably would have been better spending a bit more on better jeans and not buying so many bloody pairs but hey ho.

kitkat1967 · 10/05/2010 10:00

I recently got a pair of the M&S £12 straight leg jeans and love them. Just be careful with the sizing though as I got a 10 and now wish I had at least tried some 8s as well as mine seem a bit baggy - they are very flattering though.

NinjaChipmunk · 10/05/2010 13:23

so having perused your answers and many websites i think i need

at least one pair of indigo boot cut
a pair of mid/ dark washed straight leg
poss a pair of wider leg/ boyfriend fit

has anyone been to wimbledon debenhams? its my nearest and the debs website has loads of well priced jeans on there....bentalls in kingston is nearer me but i've always been underwhelmed by their selection (mainly as i can't afford most of their brands).

i have got on a size 12 pair of m and s Indigo collection jeans .They are low waisted and i have to constantly pull them up they are very stretchy as i am not a 12 but it is great to wear a 12 IYSWIM but i dont think i will be buying them again they are the pefect length though that is the problem with most jeans for me too long

MissusRabbit · 10/05/2010 13:49

I am the same height and size as you and have just bought some 'straightleg' dark blue jeans from Dorothy Perkins £20. They're great, although a little long in flat shoes. Very comfy too.

Iatemyskinnyperson · 10/05/2010 14:07

2nd Topshop Marthas. Flattering straight leg, and a mid-rise- kinda just under my bellybutton. I feel I can wear them at 38 in the same way the kids wear skinnies IYKWIM. I wear them under short dresses/long tops, but would also wear them with normal length tops. Also, they are narrow enough to tuck into boots in winter.
