Best holiday type skin GENTLE fake tan for those with VERY pale skin

OliviaMumsnet · 05/05/2010 16:01

I have skin not dissimilar in colour to a sheet of A4 an alabaster complexion
Thus a tendency to look streaky and orange if I try and fake tan it
But am depressed by how pale I am atm.
Are there any gentle ones that you lot can recommend?
TIA

St tropez everyday is the best

DecorHate · 05/05/2010 16:16

If you have time, try one of the gradual ones - J&J Holiday Skin works for me and I am also pale. Clinique used to do a great one but think it may be discontinued...

I swear by the Dove summer skin one. I use the darker colour but both are good. Have had compliments all day

CybilLiberty · 05/05/2010 16:18

buff and scruff those knees and ankles though. And tops of feet...there is still a margin for error if not vigilent

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2010 16:21

I'm using the Garnier Summer body one (2nd day today) - yesterday I was blue, now I'm sort of very light tan.

I am seriously pale and this is subtle enough to make my legs look normal-ish currently £2.49 in Boots

IngridFletcher · 05/05/2010 16:22

Both the J&J one and the Dove one turned my skin orange after one application.

I have skin like frozen chicken.

Johnstone's Holiday Skin, light to medium

use moisturiser all over first, especially on knees, elbows, feet
wash hands well afterwards
dont use shower gel before

it builds up gradually over several applications so you can stop when you look healthy and before you get to orange

Hated the Johnsons, I don't know if it's my skin or if I'm applying too much or what but it ends up rubbing off in horrible little bits of what looks like dead but is the cream URGH! The colour isn't bad afterwards.

Dove and Simple - streaky.

St Ives - too subtle to notice any difference so wouldn't bother again.

Olay - nice smell, not too fake tannish, non streaky but could poss be a bit orangey.

Garnier Summer Body and L'oriel Nutri whatever - nice smells good colour. My faves, I buy either that is on special.

St Tropez - haven't tried, too pricey for something that is gone within 2-3 days.

St tropez everyday here too.Am v pale normally and its a very natural even colour plus it lasts!

Oumasrusks · 05/05/2010 16:52

I'm also using the Garnier Summer body and it looks good so far (I only started using it 3 days ago). It has a pleasant smell, unlike the smell of the Johnson's one which had an overpowering sweet smell.

OliviaMumsnet · 05/05/2010 18:28

Lots of votes for Garnier/St Tropez
Sure I've tried ST before so may give G a go, esp if it's on special (bargain hunter emoticon)
THANKS all

Fake bake do a pale one thats brilliant.

Heartsease · 05/05/2010 18:37

I second the Garnier recommendation -- the best I've found for a convincing shade of magnolia (starting point is lilac).

DailyMailsaysVOTELABOUR · 05/05/2010 18:40

Is teh Garnier one in an orange bottle? If so, I use that last year and it is fairly unfake looking. Well, we all know everyone is fake now but...
