What can I wear for evening out so I don't look like a frump?

Am going out with friends, couple of bars and may possibly be dragged protesting to some hideous club .

I hardly ever go out anymore and so I don't have going out clothes anymore and don't really know what to wear anymore, as these days I just live in jeans and not even very fashionable ones .

Help me please. I'm thinking fairly dressed down, I've never been one to glam it up. But I don't want to look a frump.

Am 39, size 10. What can I wear??

Stay in your jeans but make sure they're tight/smart ones, sling on a sexy top and a jacket/blazer, wear reeeally high heels (but put some ballet pumps in your handbag!)

Exactly what mistressploppy said! My staples for this sort of night out (I don't do dresses!) are dark indigo or black bootcut or skinny jeans, black boots - although I'm on the lookout for some heels, either a bright top or a black top and some sparkles - sequins on the top, or diamante jewellery, and a black leather blazer from Gap.

What kind of colouring do you have? I'm quite 'dark' in the way I dress/colours I wear, so you might prefer pastels, but I quite like this sort of thing:

Don't know which River Island top you meant - dcouldn't see any embellished discs! But definatley like some of the tops. Think I'll pop in there and try some on thsi week...

River Island is actually pretty good if you want something that's a bit different. I have a black vest top with irridescent sequins (sounds horrendous but isn't, honestly!) that I bought from there about 4 years ago and I still wear it now and again!

New Look have some pretty nice stuff in at the minute as well, if you've got time to root through all the nudey coloured flowery stuff
