Stella McCartney and 'mum chic' denim skirt

Here

I have to laugh. As I understood it this sort of skirt was a fashion no-no according to so many threads I've read on here over the years.

I don't mind the old humble denim skirt as it goes, but conscientiously threw a few out because I thought they were wrong wrong wrong and well er...mumsy.

And now here's Stella selling it all straight back at us. One I saw was over £200 quid!

I give up!

If you are Alexa Chung or any other 20 something skinny beauty, you will look fanmtastic in this skirt.

If you are indeed a mum, it will look mumsy on you. Without fail.

BendyBob · 05/05/2010 12:06

Ah so the trick is to look mumsy but er..not. What next? Ironic flowery pinnies accessorised with a dustpan and brush?

My mum had a skirt just like that 30yrs ago. Can't designers come up with anything original instead of constantly rehashing the 50s,60s,70s and 80s.

MrsMotMot · 05/05/2010 12:25

yes. mum chic for Alexa and her cronies. If I wore that I would look awful and about 20 years older than I am. and my young fashionable sisters would laugh at me. very hard.

BendyBob · 05/05/2010 12:31

Ah but I reckon before the year is out the style threads on here will be in love with them...

You might have a point there, BendyBob. And as per usual I will resist for about a year and then cave in and buy one like all the other drones. I really am that predictable.

AbsOfCroissant · 05/05/2010 12:33

What's up with Linda's hair in the second picture? WHY?!

AbsOfCroissant · 05/05/2010 12:34

On closer inspection, it's a mullet.

My WORD I hope Stella doesn't think that's a good idea as well

BendyBob · 05/05/2010 12:34

I'm just remembering all those flouncy boho skirts and disc belts. They were so easy to wear that everyone did.

Oh dear God. The knee-length denim skirt. The worst of all possible things. Resist, good people! If you are above 20 (in years and/or BMI) you will look like Lady Frump of Frumpington. I say again, resist!

traceybath · 05/05/2010 13:38

Well I won't ever be wearing one as a-line is deeply unflattering on me.

As the article said I think (read it on sunday) if you are a mum then you can't do mum-chic - you've got to be very clearly young and gorgeous.
