Always feel i never get it right with clothes! friends always seem glam and sexy.

Any websites out there that show you whats in fashion and what to put together?

I am the very same. What I do is look for website /catalgue/magazine pics of full outfits and 'copy' them. Boden for example has outfit ideas, then I will go to the new look website and usually find identical things, or slight variations. The way I see it is they spend alot on getting it all right, with stylists and what not so may as well take advantage They put things together I would never dream of, but it looks so 'right' in the end.

Do you see something you like, buy it, get home and then struggle to find something to wear it with? I'm a bugger for doing that. I now try to stick to a few colours. Navy, white, black and neutrals/nudes then I can wear everything with jeans of various colours and lengths.

Good idea from SecretLemonadeDrinker to look at the whole outfit when you're flicking through magazines. The High Street is v quick to get up to date looks instore so take a look at their window displays too.

Also, if your friends "Always seem glam and sexy" why don't you go shopping with them and ask them to help style you? I bet they'd be really flattered.

I awlays look at what they are wearing though and think they look great but if i wore it everyone would laugh at me
mmm perhaps i need to work on my self confidence!

I get a confidence crisis as my DH and mum laugh when I try to be stylish When other people look I think they are thinking "ha ha, look at her trying to be stylish!". Trick is not to over do it - like me wearing a white linen kaftan and jeans but then a big bangle, earrings, a long necklace etc. Whatever you do don't try and copy your friends - I recently got a fringe cut and then MIL uploaded a FB pic of herself with the very same hairstyle. I am glad I got bored of my fringe and am growing it out for summer. Can't wait to get a volume perm after she has obviously spent alot of time trying to straighten her very frizzy peroxide hair to be as smooth as mine (I hate my smooth hair)

When i try to make an effort i never get it quite right either....i do find new look good and often study the windows and shop displays to see what to wear things with...also my local new look staff are good to get ideas from, it helps because they aren't young skinny things...they are about my age (30) and size (14) ok sometimes i'm a 16.

I find my foot wear always lets outfits down, i have problem feet, making it painful to wall, i need supportive shoes, not flats, they make my feet ache.

Today i finally tried on a pair of pale denim skinny jeans/jeggings not sure which and they looked really good on me, was very surprised, also got a cropped denim jacket, not to wear with the jeans though. Things i wouldn't normally try....sometimes you just need to try different things....have finally learnt that boyfriend jeans are making me look even bigger.

Do you think to be glam and sexy like your friends, you need to up the grooming too? hair, nails, makeup? i spend quite a bit on clothes....but hardly ever spend time or money on my hair and nails. Which remind me for the past 3 weeks i've been meaning to dye my hair, i have roots and greys, no wonder i look a mess.

Amandoh you hit the nail on the head there when you said "Do you see something you like, buy it, get home and then struggle to find something to wear it with?" I'm forever doing that, I do have individual lovely garments but they sit in my wardrobe untouched cos I've nothing to wear them with. Aaarrrgghh. Must take on board the suggestions here to get ideas from websites, catalogues, shop windows etc.

MissusRabbit · 05/05/2010 12:20

Oh god i'm the same. Models in windows look good cos they're thin, and don't have breatsfeeding boobs and wobbly tummys and as much as i'd love to wear heels i simpley can't chase ds2 around in a pair!

I actually think a lot is confidence too...and most people won;t be looking at me and think i look crap...i just think they do!

Definatley agree on the hair, make-up, nails well groomed thing...then even in jeans and a plain t-shirt you can look (and feel) 10 times better.

MissusRabbit · 05/05/2010 12:21

ASOS website is quite good - when you click on an item there is a list of other stuff on the right of the page that matches it. Their order and returns/exchange service is fab too!

I've found in recent years to throw the rulebook out the window. I always had all these rules of what styles I could or couldn't wear but since I've given these up I've tried loads of new styles I like.
