Can anyone recommend a really good lip balm?

I'm totally hooked on lip balms and always wear some. It would be my desert island item if I could choose.

Anyway, since I tried Philosophy lip balms, nothing else seems good enough. However they are very pricey (£10 for 14g tube), and I wondered if there were cheaper alternatives which are just as good? Also finding not many stores selling them.

best I've found is even more expensive - Molton Brown's one - however, it lasts forever! (Currently using a tube I bought over a year ago)

Honestly, I think those little round pots of Vaseline are the best thing for lips. The "Rosy Lips" one is especially good!

katiepotatie · 03/05/2010 21:30

carmex is my fave

mazzystartled · 03/05/2010 21:30

I like Burt's Bees (you can get one sort with a touch of colour)
and have just bought a Rescue Remedy lip balm, its absolutely lovely

janeite · 03/05/2010 21:31

Gotta be Carmex or the pink Vaseline one. But I have never tried an expensive one.

hf128219 · 03/05/2010 21:32

this is great but v pricey

chocolatespiders · 03/05/2010 21:32

palmers. dark choc and peppermint from boots..

dalek · 03/05/2010 21:33

Neutrogena in a pot - it's like Creme de la Mer

Shaz10 · 03/05/2010 21:33

I like Blistex cream.

Meglet · 03/05/2010 21:34

carmex.

jobhuntersrus · 03/05/2010 21:37

I use just plain vasaline and tbh have not found an expensive lip balm which can beat it.

nannyj · 03/05/2010 21:38

I love Dr Lipp and it lasts ages.

traceybath · 03/05/2010 21:39

I use the by terry one that HF linked to . I use it loads and it lasts for ages.

Peaceflower · 03/05/2010 21:42

I knew you would come with good ideas. Mnetters are fab.

I've tried the Vaseline pots, love the packaging but find the balm slides off me.

Hf At £32, it had better be good!!!

F p t sounds expensive but lovely, only tried their bath products before.

I think a trip to a department store is due, to check out your suggestions. Thank you.

Burt's Bees for us!

JaynieB · 03/05/2010 21:45

Burt Bees is good - but if your lips are sore already I find it a bit hard core! I got bought some Elizabeth Arden 8 hr cream and lip balm for a present and its really good - I'm contemplating just getting the cream again - it was more like vaseline in texture than cream, it was lovely as a lip balm and its really good on little scratches and scrapes as well.

marenmj · 03/05/2010 21:47

burt's bees here too! love the pomegranate one. I too am a balm addict and will not go anywhere without one. I couldn't stand the vaseline one as it made my lips even dryer. Ditto for neutregena and the blistex ones made me look hypothermic because they made my lips white! (also, they taste medicinal)

just don't get the burt's bees "honey" one because it smells like baby powder! best to go with the plain or coloured ones.

Meglet · 03/05/2010 21:47

yes, the minty burts bees one is nice too.

I like tingly lip balms.

hf128219 · 03/05/2010 21:48

8 hour cream is good too but I really hate the smell and can't imagine the taste!

AmeliaJaneAgain · 03/05/2010 21:48

I've tried loads and loads and can't beat the Dr Hauschka one or Avon's SOS tube.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2010 21:50

I use this Neosporin anti-biotic ointment from the US if the lips are really bad, though.

Now and again this will happen to DD1, usually after she's had a cold.

Or Alba Unpetroleum Jelly.

nagoo · 03/05/2010 22:46

JaynieB has it with 8 hour cream. It's just perfect.

pointydog · 03/05/2010 22:47

I like burt's bees - not as greasy as vaseline one. But any one of them does the job really
