Please help! I always wear black & have £20 to buy a dress for work - help me find something not black!

I'd like green or grey, maybe dark red but really want to get away from black! £20 is a very small budget for a decent dress I know - but it's a gift from Hubby to buy something to cheer me up as I'm poorly, and I'd really like a dress for work!

I usually go for pencil dresses, 50's style, burlesque stuff & try to stay in fitted clothes as I'm hourglass 12 (very) and if I bypass the waist I look much bigger. I'm a high heel wearer at all times too, if that makes a differance.

Please help Mumsnet style experts I put myself into your very clever hands ;)

how about this?

or this one? if you dont mind a pattern...

other than that am really struggling to find anything non-black!

honie · 03/05/2010 19:19

Really love both of those HS. Definately on the consider list. Thank you.

I can't find much other than black either, although I found Boohoo today which has an amazing choice for low budget but none really suitable for work. £20 really isn't much to work with - colour & fitted seem to be more expensive than black!

Hmm - it's a tricky one but I found a few:
grey
black and white print
black/white block
blue
red nautical
dark red
grey
brown

anyt hing there?

Get to TESCO.

honie · 03/05/2010 20:05

The tesco ones are gorgeous - I like both! I never knew there were so many different places to look!

I have a bit of a tummy, do you think the black & white block dress would highlight it too much?

Thank you

These dresses are all gorgeous. Could you invest in a pair of spanx to get rid of the tum?

honie · 03/05/2010 20:37

I'm a firm believer in decent undies and use an 'inches off' cincher for everyday wear! A little extreme but I'm overly body paranoid lol! I've also got some excellant tummy tuck pants that I bought from New Look in the Jan sales - really recommend them! I think you're right, the big pants would pull it off fine

I'm going to show the Mr and see which he likes - as he's paying ;) hehehe

Still cant believe the choice found so quickly after I spent hours today trawling!!

It's impressive to see what you can get for £20. They also have lots of gorgeous dresses on asos.com for about £20 - if DH offers to treat you again!

I really like the 'lounge/hoody' dresses they have No good for work so I didn't order one, but great for chilling at home! Might consider one in future!
