Help me create a weekend wardrobe please

I'm stuck in a rut for weekend wear - tends to be jeans with boots and jumpers in the winter and with a t-shirt in the summer.

But I'm in my late 40s and feel this maybe looks a tad scruffy now - but what else would you stylish MNers suggest?

I spend quite a bit of time at weekends ferrying the dc around to various sporting activities and then watching them - so it needs to be practical but (hopefully) smart.

And also some ideas for going out/entertaining at home.

Work is easy - quite formal, so shift dresses, jacket and court shoes.

So, in a summary, a smart casual but grown-up look for weekends please.

I'm short - 5ft 3in - but slim - about a size 10-12 (with biggish boobs - 34DD)

And it needs to be easy-care - so nothing that needs dry-cleaning.

TIA!

Bumpity bump - perhaps a rephrase - what does everyone else wear for "going out" at the weekend?

Or during the week if you don't need to dress formally?

Jeans

ballet flats or Converse (boring, I know, but practical)

T-Shirt (nautical stripes or plain) or white cotton shirt

short trench or leather jacket on colder days

big scarf

sunglasses

tan bag

nice jewellery (love my Alex Monroe dragonfly or cocktail ring)

clean, dry hair and NO ponytail

For warmer summer days I substitute jeans for A-line skirt, ballet flats or Madrid Birkenstocks in silver, tank top and short cardi, statement necklace or black/grey cotton dress, cardi. I tend to wear basics in neutral colours and add colours with shoes/scarves/jewellery/bags... Not very exciting but works for me

I'm the same height as you and would agree with the previous post. But I tend to wear all one colour as i think it makes me look taller. So will wear a navy t shirt which is self-striped or very thin white stripes [similar in M$S].Also i always wear scoop necks and v necks due to above.I also wear a longish pendant necklace in a bright colour as my kids say I look "pretty" if I wear one also as above.Buy the very best quality coat and shoes you can afford-but in summer I tend to live to fitflops/wedge flipflops as they add a bit of height[and have the benefit of being washable if non-leather]-good for muddy/dirty fields.I tend to buy continental coats/shoes as they seem to be cut better for shorties.Try TKmaxx if you can bear lots of trying on.Wear slim-cut jeans and buy a really good fitting pair of expensive ones. For evening a silk top from monsoon or Warehouse with dark indigo jeans and glam wedges would be good.

'Day' dresses over leggings (bare legs if warm) with boots/sandals and a cardi.

Thanks all.

Fritzi - you sound like me - going out with dry hair is an achievement!

I have hit TKMaxx today - one of those occasions when they had loads of lovely stuff there.

Have bought:
2 dresses (one I think could go over leggings)

Long nautical cardi - to go over navy linen trousers and with one of the dresses.

Very impractical but gorgeous platform sandals - can wear with all of the above

Flat, good-quality leather lace-up loafers which are a good substitute for trainers but look smarter.

Couldn't find any trousers that look ok though - I had been thinking cropped ones, to wear with heels - but it's definitely true they're not for shorties - at least they're not unless very fitted.

And I still need some good-quality t-shirts, and some accessories.

For me it's all about accessories to make me feel "properly dressed". I got this scarf from Monsoon which I love. I wear it with a mud brown leather jacket or boyfriend cardi, white T-shirt and jeans.

I also got an Alaya Bar necklace a few years ago, similar to this and it has really transformed some of my drab jeans and T-shirt combos or simple black cotton dresses into really great outfits. At least I always feel fabulous when I put on a necklace or scarf and sunglasses. Obviously only when the sun is out .
