Denim jacket for grumpy mid-40s type person?

(That would be me by the way.)

Are they desperately unfashionable? I've got summer jackets in black, grey and red, but am currently lacking anything in denim so was wondering.

Am about a size 14 on top, but 16/18 on the bottom. My style is, er, fairly boring, I mostly wear cotton stuff, in plain primaries, stripes - or White Stuff floral. And jeans, but I won't be doing double denim if I had the jacket.

It should be short enough to wear with a skirt, but not cropped.

So what is in, but won't make me look muttonish?

Definitely not unfashionable, they are quite the in thing this summer

I'd go for a more fitted shape than your traditional boxy shaped one though

or maybe a blazer style like this?

And probably a darker colour rather than stone/bleach washed.

Wow thank you, I like both of those!!

Darker denim is definitely good, I'm not going back there with stone wash

The John Rocha one is a nice shape and I like the detailing. I'd probably have to roll the sleeves up as I've got stumpy arms, but that's okay.

When I first saw the New Look one I thought it wasn't 'denim jackety' enough, but actually it looks very wearable and the shape is definitely good. And you can roll the sleeves up! They don't have it in my size but there's a New Look nearby I can try.

ooh decisions decisions...

I am at stone wash too - was a teen in the 80s, never mind double denim it was more like triple/quadruple denim

Ah yes, stonewash carrot-shaped jeans with elasticated waists. Great for making your arse look like a piping bag of mashed potato, lovely!
