BODEN DRESSES- ANYTHING YOU LIKE?

purplepeony · 29/04/2010 08:20

Desperate for a day dress- but cannot find anything anywhere.

Boden seem to be twee florals or garish brights. I like some Boden stuff- it's easy to buy and return, and it fits me on the whole.

Have you bought a day dress that you like?

I have looked at the crinkle jersey dress but wonder if the print is middle aged- and I also know that crinkle doesn't stay crinkle- it goes baggy.

I am a size 10 and short- 5' 3" and older- but look around young mid 40s, I am told!

I bought the fun dress in petrol/lime and it really is fab - very flattering! May be a bit too dressy for the day though. Would think it would be ok for work though.

SerendipityAlways · 29/04/2010 09:44

Purplepeony - I bought the jersey dress in pink/multicoloured from this years Boden Spring/Summer collection. Had to return it - my daughter told me it made me look "like an old woman"!!!!. I am in my early 40s, size 10 in dresses and 5'6 - found the jersey was very unflattering and clung to every little bump. Like you I love dresses, they're the complete outfit. Quite like the look of the Boden formal colour block dresses even though they are more dressy. I think there's a very poor selection in the shops at the moment.

purplepeony · 29/04/2010 12:09

serendipity- sounds like we are looking for same thing.
I have ordered- in desperation- the linen dress - the short one in blue- and the crinkly linen one in purple, and the everyday jersey dress ( not the crinkle one)in the blue floral colourway.

I think under 40s can look great in ditsy floral prints, but over 40s look like Hyacinth Bucket or typical WI garb!

I do not expect tolike any of them but you cannot really tell from the pics.

I have got the colourblock one from last year- in grey and black and have not worn it yet! it is quite formal and I bought an 8 so it's a tight fit- too tight for very hot days.

I do like the Fun Dress in lime but it is now out of stock/sold out in my size.

I also like the beaded trim V neck dress in purple, but for £95? It might also look a bit OTT for popping into Waitrose!

Peppa, that is your best name yet. Respect.

I have the crinkle jersey dress in the purple print and think it's cute. It does have a 40's vibe, but it's still flattering (or so I've been told). I'm 43 and a busty size 12 (US), so I'm not small, but the cut of the dress works--the v-neck is on the low side, and the hem hits right at the knee. I got a lot of compliments the first time I wore it. (It hasn't warmed up enough yet to wear it regularly.) I definitely don't think the dress looks old-ladyish, and I suspect I'll wear it a lot this summer when it's hot during the day.

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/04/2010 17:22

I'm too looking for one purple. I'm size 8, 5' 4'', v flat chested and it needs to be good to wear casually and in the heat.

I too was thinking the purple crinkly jersey.

I have a crinkle one from last year same design as the linen with the tie under the bust, I just look a little lost in it, so voluminous, I look preggers.

puzzlepetal · 30/04/2010 17:37

The crinkly jersey one is very thin. A bit like a nightie but good for hot beach days I think!

castille · 30/04/2010 17:38

I've got the crinkle linen dress.

The size 6 I kept is more like an 8, it fits me more closely than last year's linen dress in an 8 was a bit tent-like.

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/04/2010 17:41

So perhaps I should try the six Castille, which colour have you got?

I don't mind if it is thin jersey, actually that is better for me, how low is the v?

puzzlepetal · 30/04/2010 17:47

The V is lowish but not indecent! The purple essential cami looks really pretty underneath. I'm not keen on showing my cleavage so prefer to layer. I also have the crinkle linen dress in purple and it is lovely, quite a dark purple though.

castille · 30/04/2010 17:50

I have it in white. V is not too low, I am 5.6" and all but flat chested too and it's fine on me.

It's not jersey though, it's linen. Thick fabric but unlined, so I hope it's not too transparent in bright sunlight!

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/04/2010 17:53

thanks both of you, I think I may try the linen one in purple. Nice to have a plain colour for a change.

puzzlepetal · 30/04/2010 17:57

Don't forget your XNHT code.

Themasterandmargaritas · 30/04/2010 17:58

I've got a 15% off code is yours a better offer?

puzzlepetal · 30/04/2010 18:03

£10 off + free p&p. So yes you'll save a little more.

purplepeony · 30/04/2010 19:48

I am awaiting the linen crinkle tent in purple size 8, the jersey dress in blue flower pattern ( this is not the crinkle jersey) and the linen shift that has short sleeves and a kind of pleated/frill hem, in blue.
I suspect they will all go back!

duckyfuzz · 30/04/2010 19:55

I have the tea derss in green, haven't worn it yet as its too cold but it looks nice in a vintagey sort of a way, not too boden

Tortington · 30/04/2010 19:56

ithink this seasons bodenn is bloody DIRE

muddleduck · 30/04/2010 19:59

I now only buy anonymous things like jeans, plain skirts etc. Quality still good, but design is awful.

any thoughts on the demin shorts? dull but practical?

purplepeony · 30/04/2010 20:50

I only want 1 dress and will most likely return all.

I agree that most of Boden is awful this summer.

Today I quite liked a couple in Jigsaw- couple of dresses- but am I going to pay £150 for an everyday summer frock to wear in the UK. errr no.

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 03/05/2010 11:14

purple did you get one? I'm about to do my order now.

muddleduck, I've jeans clam diggers from last year, got elastane in them, I really really like wearing them.
