nice or not?

Looking for a pretty dress for summer but needs to be quite fitted to cover all my bumps! Think Kirsty Allsop's figure but I've got smaller boobs. I thought with a little 3/4 sleeve cardi in toning colour but worried the print is too much/old fashioned? I like classic clothes rather than stuff that won't be in fashion next summer. Would it stupid with pretty thong sandals or would it be better with pretty pumps and if so, what colour? Thanks in advance.

nice if you're in the WI

luciemule · 26/04/2010 19:38

oh - that's that then.

sorry just my opinion

others may really like it

probably will look lovely on you

tethersend · 26/04/2010 19:48

I think it's lovely- a really classic cut.

Wear it with red or white ballet pumps.

Actually, their website is a bit of a revelation- although the dress I like is out of stock.

EggyAllenPoe · 26/04/2010 19:52

don't like the colour (is believing green is for gardens not clothes a silly clothes prejudice?), though i think you'd need to check the fitting carefuly - i quite like this silhouette but it has to be cut just right.

I'd be temped to team it with a high-contrast colour cardi, bright pink or red....

bunnymother · 26/04/2010 20:00

Not loving it, and given that the fabric flares from the waist (think it should flare once it has passed the widest part of your hips) it may not be v flattering.

mylovelymonster · 26/04/2010 20:12

Does look 'old' and a bit autumnal to me. Have you had a look at Jigsaw/Kew/Fenn Wright Manson/Phase Eight/Coast etc? I'm sure you could find something well cut and classic in a prettier style.

animula · 26/04/2010 20:15

It's nice - but I liked this one more.

Tocca · 26/04/2010 20:18

or Anthropologie maybe?

lots of ka type dresses on there.

animula · 26/04/2010 20:20

I have this - which has been roundly mocked on mn - and there were reasonable grounds for the scorn - so I am probably not to be trusted!

IagreewithNick · 26/04/2010 20:21

I buy quite a lot in Laura Ashley and am a member of the WI but am not keen on that one. I think it is the colours.

bluejeans · 26/04/2010 20:30

Sorry I think it looks a bit 'mumsy'

janeite · 26/04/2010 20:35

I like that Joules one - so there!

I'm a sucker for a fifties style dress but the one in the OP looks too long and a bit dull, sorry.

KnottyLocks · 26/04/2010 20:51

This is lovely and would skim over lumps and bumps.

KnottyLocks · 26/04/2010 21:32

Gorgeous but £££££

luciemule · 26/04/2010 22:02

Love that Kaliko one knotty. Very me where it twists under bust - I have beautiful evening dresses with that style. Hmm - think I might pop to JL tomorrow and have a peek.

I wasn't detailed enough I think - looking for just below knee, slightly a-line/flaring as I have large thighs and hips/bum. I'm 12/14 top and 14/16 bottom. Nightmare. I also hate my calves but am going to grin and bear it and go with less than the ankle length skirts I usually wear every summer!
Ggirl - don't worry - blunt is good imo when shopping. If my butt's gonna look huge, then there's no point - that's my motto!
Will lok at Anthropologie too. Thanks ladies.

Have a look at the Phase Eight dresses too - there's some pretty ones.

Good luck!

mylovelymonster · 26/04/2010 23:01

I've invested in this in blue & although pricey is cut beautifully and looks smashing

IagreewithNick · 26/04/2010 23:27

I like the joules one animula. But I adore that LK Bennet one,
