Anyone regularly shop from private sellers on ebay?If so any tips-there appear to be some bargains but the sceptic in me fears there may be a catch?

As long as the seller has good feedback, there's a rarely a catch. That's my tip, just read the seller's feedback comments. If they have a good track record, it's usually fine.

I buy from there all the time- just check their feedback

x-post.

Don't forget that what seems like a bargain 2 hours before the auction ends can rapidly escalate in price in the minutes before it ends.

I sell my products on Ebay- no catch- if there was I'd receive negative feedback and nobody would buy from me! Do some research, and just go for it!

I do - I buy what looks good, but if on arrival it isn't something I want/doesn't fit/looks crap, I sell it on immediately or take to charity/give away.

My take on it is, I still pay loads less than buying new, and get much better quality stuff, so I can afford the odd mistake.

Finding out what size you are in brands that you like is necessary, so try stuff on in shops to get an idea - I'm a 10 in some brands and a 12 in others, so saves me buying too-small items.

And don't get carried away with bidding, and do include the price of postage when deciding how much you want to pay.

Ok will be brave!Have five weddings, a big party and christening coming up- the fashionista in me[hmn]would like a new outfit for each - the realist in me knows that would blow my clothing allowance for the year so bidding seems the way to go

I buy and sell on ebay too and agree with everything that people have said. Another tip I would add is do not have your ebay username too similar to your email address and only message buyers or sellers through the ebay message service not their/your email. This is because of security-if someone knows your ebay username and your email address they can pose as you on ebay and set up all sorts on your account. I made this mistake and suddenly I was locked out of my account and someone posing as me set up a ebay shop and was selling fake handbags! It all got sorted out and it hasn't put me off but just follow the ebay security rules and you will be fine.

I buy Boden kids stuff all the time for my 18mnth old, its all hardly worn and great for her nursery days...pay about £3 / £5 for T shirts etc, so many many bargains to be had!
