SHORTS ARE CALLING ME NOW THE SUN IS OUT BUT....

Right i'm a bit lost i need some shorts but where do i get them. I'm 38 with 3 v small children so i don't want some of these things that barely cover your fanjo and i don't like ones that look like they should have come from a lands end catalogue.

I've a big bum and wobblyish thighs and belly though the hills of brighton are helping to conquer the former.

I also need some nice loose tops to hide the muffins and tummy - quite long preferably.

Any ideas?

Nope, but watching with heart felt interest!

Beasknees · 23/04/2010 21:48

thank pixie, the fashion ladies are obviously out and about tonight

Do you really need shorts? Would you compromise with some nice skirts? I fear shorts are for children only imo. Unless board shorts, but they are no good after about 25, and only on the tall, tanned, and actual beach dwelling folk

Beasknees · 23/04/2010 22:04

i love shorts - much easier when bending down in a sandpit etc, but if you have some nice skirts on offer please suggest away.....

Describe yourself and your usual style to me Height, dress size? I spend all summer in skirts and dresses, mainly because I have ropey old legs that would scare the children out of the aforementioned sandpit

How about high waisted city shorts, the sort that come to just above the knee ?

or how about this ?

justallovertheplace · 23/04/2010 22:18

Oh my eyes!

Beasknees · 23/04/2010 22:19

i'm a pretty boring dresser to be honest. I've only just graduated to jeans in the last 3 years.

Rexy i don't particulalry mind high waisted although i don't really like those shorts- perhaps too beige.

i think i mostly wear black but i have an awful lot of green tee shirts in my drawers but i do like pink and red - though perhaps not for shorts - i mostly hide in browns and greens and khaki too.

I'm 5 ft 7 and would be3 size 12/14 top size but have size 40d boobs so some variance in top size and bottoms are usually 12/14 depending on what shop they coem from.

Trouble is i've spent most of the last 5 years being pregnant or nursing a baby (not really trouble as i now have 3 gorgeous children more that my body and style has been morphed into shape/bump hiding)

What about

this?

Bit of fake tan always helps!

EggyAllenPoe · 23/04/2010 22:27

my husband refers to this as 'Shorts weather' .......for me, shorts weather would involve a snow drift across the Devils route to work..

sorry OP, no help from this quarter...

notyummy · 23/04/2010 22:34

I also have a pair similar to

these.

Can wear with wedges or flip flops as wished and quite flattering.

I am 38, bit taller than you, but a size 12 - so no skinny minnie. A few squats and lunges can help how you feel about the pins! How about these to wear with them - getting fit and summery clothing all at once....

redshoesnoknickers · 24/04/2010 07:42

I feel shorts are mostly the devils work, however I do have pair I made myself cutting off a pair of jeans that has ripped at the knee at that length. I also second yummy re: wedges with them.

If you are determined stay AWAY from anything that looks like Ray Mears would wear it try linen, classic black or maybe something like this if you want something more "summery"

Beasknees · 24/04/2010 09:33

£95 for a pair of shorts [gulp]

I like the ones that notyummy has suggested which are definitely more in my price range than the Reiss ones which though lovely i don't think i could wear in orange or at that price. I do like the baggier ones rather than the tight ones ( although i am a recent convert to skinny jeans)

Bought some fab ones today in primark for £9

They are denim, slouchy style, come just one/above knee, with a narrow turn-up. Great for picnic/park/beach action. And £9!

They are long enough that I would even wear them to pick up from school in the summer -I think.
