Are white linen trousers acceptable....

on a late 30's, size 22 body?

I ask cos have bought some and now have huge crisis of confidence about wearing them. I would wear them with long line tops and sandals/pumps as I do with black/brown trousers.

Go on, what do you think?

No no no. Without being rude, your thighs will rub a hole in them within hours (am an ex size 18er and know of what I speak

I wear them and I am a similar size.

My thighs do not rub a hole in them! Have had them for 4 years so far!

izzybiz · 23/04/2010 18:20

Yes! Im a 16-18 and wear white linen trousers every summer, no hole rubbng yet!

Rockbird · 23/04/2010 18:21

Don't be absurd, of course you can. I'm a 38 year old size 20/22. I wore them last year and I will wear them again this year. Presumably you're not going to wear them with a cropped top so why the hell not? Are we supposed to spend the entire summer in jeans fgs? Or maybe a sackcloth and ashes?

And I've never rubbed a hole in trousers. Tights yes but trousers no.

As you can tell am a leetle bit sick of being told we can't wear everything. I will concede that leggings and miniskirts should probably be avoided but really, there is a limit.

My thighs rubbed holes in trousers when I was a 12, lol!

You'll look fine wearing them with a long line top. They are a wardrobe staple like jeans.

I think white trousers can look great - really clean and fresh

justallovertheplace · 23/04/2010 18:23

Damn Mine were expensive ones that were ridiculously thin, so maybe that makes a differnce? I think a linen mix is more robust. As long as you can't actually see through them in that case, I think it would be fine. Nothing worse than seeing wobbly arses or comedy knickers under linens

Rockbird · 23/04/2010 18:34

Naah, you've just got fatter thighs than the rest of us

traceybath · 23/04/2010 18:39

I love white jeans but think loose fitting white linen trousers especially with loose tops can look a little too much like pyjamas.

Depends on quality and cut really. But if you think they look nice and they're comfortable - then wear them.

justallovertheplace · 23/04/2010 18:43

Had Rockbird, had.

Rockbird · 23/04/2010 19:00

Well done though (grudging). No seriously. I'm in awe of anyone who can lose weight 'cos I don't seem to be able to.

missmoopy · 23/04/2010 20:41

Have worn linen trousers for years with no holes, so don't think them being white would make that more likely???

Thankyou ladies, I will be brave and wear them.

I love white linen trousers, I've worn them for years and I'm certainly not sylph-like!! The only thing I would say is if you can afford lined ones they hang better, don't crease so easily, and they're never transparent! If you're handy with a sewing machine you could try lining a cheaper pair yourself, go for anti-static lining fabric or thin white cotton, it's quite easy to do. You wear whatever you feel happy and comfortable in, and your white trousers will look wonderful with this summer's colours.
