Oh God, I'm a 'VIP' this weekend and no idea what to wear - HELP!

TequilaMockinBird · 19/04/2010 21:32

I entered a prize draw a couple of weeks ago whilst at a 1 off footie match with DP, and somehow managed to win first prize

Anyhow, the prize is a private box at this weekends game, 3 course meal with 'legends', meet players etc.

The football club have rang tonight to say that there will be a photographer there to take photos of me receiving the prize from players etc, for publicity - local press, matchday programmes, website blah blah blah

What on earth am I going to wear?! I usually only wear jeans and a top but the club have stated no jeans, no football tops, no trainers etc. I also want to look nice for the photos as I have no idea where they'll end up!

Now, here's the tricky part. I'm 6ft tall, size 18-20 top and size 16 bottoms - with massive norks (40G)! (this is the reason I mainly wear jeans and top

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

bump (i'll be back)
What do you normally wear for smart things? Length? Long or shorter?

whifflegarden · 19/04/2010 21:41

Arms? Do you show them?

TequilaMockinBird · 19/04/2010 21:42

When I go to meetings at work I usually just wear a pair of black trousers with (again) a t-shirt type top - norks are too big for anything with buttons, and anything which is tight around the bust and then 'floaty' just makes me look pg! The rest of the time at work is spent on construction sites so jeans, hi-vis jacket, steel toe-capped boots and a hard hat

I was thinking about wearing a dress for once - but not sure I'd find anything which didn't make me look pg, or fat

I also cant really wear heels - due to my height. I fairly self-conscious about being tall and dp is the same height as me so don't want to tower over him!

I need to go to bed now as have a very early start tomorrow but will check back in when i get to work.

TIA x

And yes, showing arms is fine! Legs too for that matter! I just really have no idea about dressing for such occasions!

what a fab name you have Tequila

well how about a nice maxi dress? you could wear with flat gladiators seeing as you dont want to wear heels. there are so many around at the moment, they are not all the "tight round the boobs then flowing out to tent proportions" variety of previous seasons.

i'm sure some of these clever styligh girls on here will have plenty of links to lovely slinky maxi dresses that will have you loking quie the Amazonian i'm sure you are

whifflegarden · 19/04/2010 21:49

Start with these.
You'll have great shape to work from.

whifflegarden · 19/04/2010 22:31

this? And check out the accessories

boden again?

monsoon of course

See anything?

TequilaMockinBird · 20/04/2010 08:09

whifflegarden, thank you so much I do like both of those boden ones! And, I already have a spanx!

So a dress which 'fits' around my bust would be better than say an A-line dress do you think? I'm finishing work a bit early today due to early start so might go and try a few on.

GeneHuntsMistress, thank you . I do fancy a maxi dress actually but think I'm too tall? I'm so not used to this dress buying malarky, don't think I've worn one since I was in school!

Tequila - tall girls suit Maxis the best. I am 5 ft 10 and wear them a lot. You could either wear flats or one of the v low new wedge sandals that are out this year.

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/04/2010 08:26

A dress like this perhaps ?? If you felt it was showing too much clevage, you could always pop a vest in a contrasting colour underneath.

I agree that "fitted" Maxi dresses would be perfect and great with flat/low shoes

a bit more colourful

very classic

notyummy · 20/04/2010 08:37

this sort of look

TequilaMockinBird · 20/04/2010 08:46

Ooh there are some lovely ones on that tallgirls site. Do you think I could wear a suit jacket with a maxi dress? Just to smarten it up a bit? Or would a cardigan/shrug be better? DP is wearing a suit and tie btw.

TequilaMockinBird · 20/04/2010 08:48

notyummy, thanks for that, I have an account with SimplyBe aswell! Not sure they'd be long enough from there though. It needs to go right down to my ankles doesnt it? Would it look silly shorter?

OP posts:
GeneHuntsMistress · 20/04/2010 09:05

yeah with a maxi you do need it to go right down to ankles at least otherwise would look a bit odd.

i wouldn't do a suit jacket,it won't look right - wear a bolero shrug (Monsoon do them in all colours) and while you're in there pick up a big corsage that coordinates with dress and wear that - you will look penty smart & glam enough

make sure you post the pic after the event pretty please

TequilaMockinBird · 20/04/2010 09:14

GeneHuntsMistress, I read that as 'pick up a big corset'

Ok, bolero shrug it will be. Think I'm going to order one of those tallgirls dresses - does anybody know if they're big or small fitting? Not sure whether to get the 16,18 or 20!!

OP posts:
notyummy · 20/04/2010 09:18

Tequila - if they do free returns, just order 2 in different sizes and return one to be on the safe side!

GeneHuntsMistress · 20/04/2010 09:22

dont get one of the tie-up shrugs though, it will ruin the line of the dress and create too much fuss around the bust.

oooh have fun! and your DH will be blown away when he sees you all glammed up in your new frock

TequilaMockinBird · 20/04/2010 09:22

Looks like I may need DP's credit card again here then!

Oh, and of course, I will post a photo after the event!
