Is 38 too old for a bikini?

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 13:05

I don't want to look like I'm desperately hanging onto my yoof. Do I need to resign myself to a naice one piece or can I get away with it for a bit longer? I'm 5ft5 , size 10 and quite toned.

And if you've seen anything you like - please share!

If you have a good body a bikini will be more flattering than a one piece. No age is too old.

bellavita · 19/04/2010 16:22

I am 45 this year and always wear bikinis.

higgle · 19/04/2010 16:29

Well Lorraine Kelly is 50 and she thinks she looks OK here The daily Mail say she looks wonderful, but most of the readers are saying she doesn't. I think she looks OK and id my body was OK in the mid section I'd wear one too - but its not,and at 53 notlikely to improve much. 38 is definately OK

right the rules are

  1. never try on in a shop - take home with you
  1. try on in morning when crease free and jsut out of bed
  1. If in shop try on top only - tops always harder than arses. if you like the top then start with arses
  1. think colour black is not flattering on most or indeed thinning - spec if against lily white skin
  1. i dont like tie briefs even on the thinnest over 30. the skin tone is just NOT good enough for them
  1. if anzious about tum or tits then get a toning spag strap vest to wear when you are prancing around playing blardy beach games.
  1. get a skirt or something NOT a sarong or polyester kaftan, to shove over top en route home.

that is all

AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 16:36

hehe---had forgotten about your aversion to sarongs, click !

< has wistful summery-type memories...>

I like sarongs ! So there...but then I look fab in them

  1. Check. Who wants to try on in a shop? My lady garden might need a bit of a strim before attempting that.
  1. Noted - same as weighing then? Does the mamag rule apply too?
  1. Noted but see above anyway.
  1. Disappointing. Like black. Does the same apply to white?
  1. Check and far to easy for DC's to pull off.
  1. Noted
  1. With AF on sarongs. Cinsider it to be one of your unreasonable objections like clogs.

am with the clicky one on clogs, though

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 17:41

I know. Tis a momentary lapse of reason on your part AF. .

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 17:42

you like clogs ? < amazed >

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 17:49

Fraid so. Not all but some. Do I need to wear a badge?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 18:42

no, your clogs will tell people all they need to know

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 19:13

lol - yeah - you're right. They'll say "Rest of the outfit looks cool but she's trying too hard with those minging clogs - should have gone for Birkies instead".

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 19:18

precisely

AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 19:18

how about clogs and a bikini ?

not that is trying too hard

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 19:25

Need to get another trend in to really feel the vibe - bikini would have to be leather, white leather. Now I'm picturing myself in clogs and leather bikini on cromer beach. Mmm niiice.

ClickNegg · 19/04/2010 19:28

god i am too
thanks for that

bellissima · 19/04/2010 19:30

Agree Greenshadow - I'm mid-40s and wear a bikini by the Med, but wouldn't in Cornwall. Down in the sud de France I'm certainly not the oldest in a bikini (not by a long way!) and a one-piece or even a tankini feels frumpy and too hot. But I get an all-over fake tan before I go.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 19:33

My gift to you Click.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 19:49

oo, I love Cromer beach

I like to swish around in my sarong

ClickNegg · 19/04/2010 19:50

well dont go to bloody cornwall then
on the south coast we are more laissez faire

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 20:23

See you there AF - I'll be the aging fashion victim with a Mr Whippy.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 19/04/2010 20:29

is that an icecream or a hairstyle ??

GeekOfTheWeek · 19/04/2010 20:34

You are definately not too old.

What style are you thinking?

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 19/04/2010 20:45

AF - he he - that would be the icecream, from the caff on the pier. And chips from mary janes with salt and vinegar. You can swish by in your sarong. I'll be so fat from the icecream and chips that I won't be wearing a bikini any more and will be in a big anorak even though it's seventy degrees in the shade. Probably still have the clogs on though. You can look on me piteously.

Geek - I have no bloody idea. One that made (a) bum look perter
(b) norks look bigger and
(c) legs look longer

would be good. I'm open to suggestions. Well, except sparkly leopard print thongs.

my hair looks like a Mr Whippy in the mornings

or a cockatiel
