Bored of Boden

Have Johnny and his helper elves designers and stylists been sniffing the glue that holds the catalogues together? I used to love their clothes but some of the outfits now are truly insane and I think I've finally given up on trying to find something in Boden that looks normal and fits me properly....
So, what other mail order companies does everyone use?

Wrap

Poetry

White company

Toast (mucho pesos)

Saltwater

Joe Browns (I don't but others do)

bunnymother · 19/04/2010 12:31

I don't use mail order companies, but internet shop quite often. Have you looked at ASOS?

mumdebump · 19/04/2010 12:37

haven't heard of most of those. I think I live in fashion time warp!

Hmm - at least half of those I get unsolicited, simply (I presume) from being on Johnnie et als mailing list. mumdebump - you must have been sensible enough to tick the box saying don't pass on my details! You could also try La Redoute.

nowwhatdoido · 19/04/2010 12:59

Mistral

dottyaboutstripes · 19/04/2010 13:33

What is Saltwater like for sizing? I've browsed lots but never ordered

darkandstormy · 19/04/2010 16:13

Bonaparte just bought a waistcoat v.nice

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2010 17:37

I have had deliveries from Wrap and Boden today - all v.nice actually.

Wrap things can be a bit fussy but I tend to stick to the plainer things and find the quality is very good.

lolabug · 19/04/2010 17:43

I was put off when I read Johnny in Sunday Times or something saying they did not want their clothes to be sexy. Definetly not!...he said...

Ohh poo, I said. Post children its nice to try and feel sexy now and again, and i've noticed all his necklines have gone up and skirt lengths have come down....(not great as I have boobs, so I need a V neckline).

boo hiss johnny....

Try Great Plains here

LynetteScavo · 19/04/2010 17:43

I've given up on Boden, and now go for The White Company....I love the safeness of it.

Something poseses me to buy Saltwater whenever I go to Cornwall, but I never wear what ever I've bought when I get home.

LynetteScavo · 19/04/2010 17:46

I'm also in love with Fever...I'm wearing a Fever dress right now.

DarrellRivers · 19/04/2010 17:49

I've so far tried ASOS and La Redoute for a bit of a change the last few weeks
Good value and some lovely stuff
Love Anusha for some high end way too pricy stuff
Am off to explore Saltwater now

getthewineinthefridge · 19/04/2010 18:13

Boden catalogue hit the door mat this morning so thought I would actually take a proper look - not really checked out this season for either me or the kids.

I have bought various stuff from Boden over the years and I still like it and wear it, and usually stock up in the sale for my children, but the ladies SS10 is just so IN YER FACE, more than usual I am sure, there is not that much in there, other than trousers which is just kind of "plain" ie. something you could wear every day and be seen in public in without looking outrageous!!!

Who wears this BIG PRINT stuff???

Other end of the spectrum and COMPLETELY plain but never been disappointed by - the White Company.

mumdebump · 19/04/2010 18:38

Thanks for all the replies. I like the look of wrap, poetry and mistral

LOL @ lolabug although TBH any V-neck top I've bought from Boden always flashes too much

Agree with you getthewineinthefridge about the big print stuff. I have Boden stuff from years ago too and it still looks great but the recent collections are totally OTT.
Have bought a few White Company things in the past but have found the quality to be very variable - particularly poor on the bedding but also on the clothing. Might give them another go though.

Loved the Fever website, great post LynetteScavo...

cathers · 19/04/2010 19:04

Have a look at Mint Velvet. I love their stuff and great quality

mumdebump · 20/04/2010 19:35

Wow, lots of lovely clothing companies and not a hotch-potch in sight! Thanks for all the posts. Have also found Kew, White Stuff and Joules. I may never shop with Johnny again (except for mini-Boden for DD)

I looked at the new Boden catalogue earlier, it's all so LOUD! The things I had delivered the other day were from the spring/summer range rather than this new summer catalogue and are far more restrained of pattern
