I tried on some lovely dresses in monsoon and Coast, but nothing fits me properly.

I am slim, small(ish) bust but broad back.

No hips, small bum, good arms and legs.

I have historically struggled with buying outfits that make the best of my proportions and dresses are fairly impossible for me; they either fit well on the top and have a foot of spare fabric on the hips, or fit closely on the body, but tight round my back, or gaping at the bust.

Anything overly patterned frightens me, but there is a lot of pattern around so I could be persuaded for the right outfit.

how about some chic slim fiting trews and a more blousey top

and fab heels

woodchuck · 18/04/2010 21:16

i am considering separates (again) as the dress idea just has too many variables,

another thing, I am only 5'3" and tend to buy from petite ranges for trousers, or buy a shorter size

You sound like you are an apple shape (as I am). It's a bugger, isn't it? You might be better to go for some wide-leg trousers and top combo rather than a dress. I can't get on with dresses either - apple is a bad shape for dresses...

cyb · 18/04/2010 21:19

what size top and botom do you normally wear

woodchuck · 18/04/2010 21:24

I normally wear 10 for tops, 6/8 bottoms...well...usually 8 and a lot of hitching up.

i think I might be more a triangle than an apple peggotty, not certain on that though...

blimey you are teensy

I'm stilll looking for you

peggotty · 18/04/2010 21:26

Gah, you're tiny! Prob not an apple then, as that usually involves excess tummy-blubber!

woodchuck · 18/04/2010 21:26

i don't feel, teensy though. I was shopping with SIL yesterday and she was saying how it must be dead easy to shop when you are slim. I'm sure it is if you are one size all the way along

What about a tunic style where it doesn't really matter if the bottom half isn't fitted.

this is lovely but was too short for me and my chunky legs

woodchuck · 18/04/2010 21:37

maybe I've been looking at wrong styles completely, I like the glamour factor of A line type dresses but just can't pull it off. I would need some fab shoes for a tunic style dress to banish the feeling that I'd gone to a wedding in a giant t-shirt

woodchuck hardlky anyone is one size all over, I'm a 12 top and 14 bottom

its about finding what shape suits you

this is good

I like that black dress Demi moorse has on

woodchuck · 18/04/2010 21:43

so maybe wide-leg trousers, I will look
