I just cant get into them. They remind me of when nylon long frocks were in when I was seven!! Can anyone convince me otherwise, how tall do you have to me? do you have to be slim? Im going away soon and need a posh evening frock.

I personally love maxi's and have far too many of them in my wardrobe! I love the feeling of floating around in them with flip flops during long summer days - a bit hippy sort of style but I also love the fact I can wear heals and jewellery in the evening.

Main reasons I love maxi's:-

I have rubbish legs so summer is a nightmare clothes wise. I can't wear shorts and 3/4 trousers make my cankles look like huge tree trunks. My stomach has seen better days after 2 children and maxi's sim over all of my wobbles plus my boobs and arms are probably my best bit so I can show them off of put a cardi on if I want.

I'm about 5Ft 5, a pear shape and a size 10.

I have been looking at this new look one

What do you wear with them? which shoes/jacket?

FrancesFarmer · 16/04/2010 14:03

I hated them for ages but slowly changed my mind.

This one www.oasis-stores.com/Paisley-Print-Maxi-Dress/Maxi-Dress/oasis/fcp-product/4470062261 from Oasis is lovely. It's silk and feels lovely to touch - that would help clear your mind of all nylon-related thoughts.

FrancesFarmer · 16/04/2010 14:05

^Lovely twice in one line. If this were a creative writing class, I'd be thrown out!

samsonara · 16/04/2010 18:38

I don't think you need to be tall or slim, if you are short get a petite sizing one and if you are tall, well you can choose any style and look great, but if you are not slim then take bit more thought with the details, eg the kind of yoke it has ( top half), whether it is loose fitting all the way or part of the way, what the sleeves are like, if it looks and feels good on you'll feel good carrying it off.

kittya · 16/04/2010 18:40

You see the top half on the Oasis one looks like it will give some coverage, I have a G cup. Im a 14/16 (but I wont be by the time my holiday comes around) It might be worth trying on.

for kittya - mind you, this is going to be quite a casual, beach style.

samsonara · 16/04/2010 18:55

the Oasis one is lovely, if you feel there's a bit more cleavage on show, add a pendant necklace to detract a bit from the flesh, ifyou feel there isn't enough, maybe a push up bra with it..worth trying on the dress, you can't always tell

DarrellRivers · 16/04/2010 18:56

i have tried on the newlook one and it looks crap on

kittya · 17/04/2010 12:33

Im so lazy to go into town but at 70quid I should really try it on, I wonder what kind of cardi goes with it?

I love the beach one, it will do for my holiday, will take a further look.

kittya · 18/04/2010 01:40

Its very different!! I like it but I couldnt wear it. I would think you have to be pretty thin for it. Its a real holiday dress.

SuperflousBuns · 18/04/2010 23:09

It's the horizontal stripes that are off-putting (as well as the price)
love that ist a bit different and love the colours.

Or could just get loads of cheapo stuff from primark
