My dad's asked me to help find something for my mum for their ruby anniversary. All of the ruby jewellery I can find is quite classic.

does anyone know where I can find something more up to date to show him. ideally earrings in a drop style, but otherwise a ring?

What is your price range? Sorry if this is way too much but my dh got my engagement ring, which is a ruby from Malcolm Betts. Tis not cheap though.

oooh lovely - what beautiful rings , think he is willing to pay for something nice. I think that she would like drop earrings in possible, but something quite light?

ec2

julia cook - necklace is ruby

Julia cook is (far) less pricey than EC 2 but EC 2 is much loved of the famous and a bit cool.

Just opened the MB link - s'nice!

I must be going potty but that Malcom Betts stuff can't be that cheap

There's a gold necklace with a 1.6 carat diamond for 1086.

Surely the 1086 can't be the price (maybe the item number, there's no pound sign next to it)- it would usually be much more expensive for a diamond like that.

Ooh I love the Julia Cook pieces - any idea of price animula?

luckywinner · 13/04/2010 20:30

I'm not sure about the actual prices for the Malcolm Betts stuff. If its not too crass to give actual figures, my engagement ring which is a platinum band and a ruby which is about cm high and half cm wide it was £2500. A lot of his jewellery is in platinum which hikes up the prices. Its really lovely though. He's a really nice man too!

LaurieFairyCake · 13/04/2010 20:32

It's not crass

saves me looking a chump when I try and buy that beautiful 0.60 carat sapphire and platinum ring for '800' quid

My brother is a jeweller and does commission work.

This is his website

MadameOvary - had to ask dh, and his memory is ... wobbly. (Not being coy - he doesn't even remember the births of his dc. Mind you, there could be a reason for that.)

He thinks my necklace was just over £100. But he is v. v. vague - so could be wrong.

Btw - she will do pieces to order, so you can chat, and have something that is v. v. you. And (please don't take this as anything but a compliment, Juliacook, if you're reading ... ) I don't think the website truly does her justice. I think it's aim is to give an idea, and an idea of the workmanship, but a lot of the v. striking pieces she has made aren't on it.

I'm really happy you like it! I do too!

Thanks animula, I am very snobby fussy about jewellery and this is the first time in ages I've liked something!
