Which companies can I buy from online whose sizes measure on the small side? I am v. small boned and thin and even a size 8 in a lot of regular brands come up 'big'.

If it helps, I am average height.

taa. never bought from Warehouse yet. I hate having to try on stuff before I leave the shop. And hate even more buying stuff then taking it back.

Oasis comes up small.

I second Warehouse, but personally I find Oasis can come up big, but they do a size 6.

Topshop are good, pretty true to size. French Connection come up big, but they do a size 6 which is usually ok (though occasionally even that comes up big). Laredoute is also good. Most sites have a size guide, so I take my measurements and see how they match up.

So is their stuff appropriate for someone who is a youngish 40? I have a staid job too and hoping to find clothes I can use at work but dress up a bit when I go out.

Miss Selfrige do a size 4 (which I just look at in disbelief! ).

Foxy, I am also small, usually take a size 6 and usually find Topshop, River Island is a good size 6. H & M also is really good for small tops.
I have in the past shopped in kids Gap and Jigsaw, sometimes the sleeves are a bit short, maybe they have twigged on!
Am on the look out for a maxi dress for a wedding that doesn't make me long too bony so will be interested in what others recommend.

p.s for dressy stuff, catwalk diva comes up tiny.
