Just bought quite formal looking dress, how to dress it down?

it is so fab and slinky, really lovely fine jersey and very flattering
but looks quite formal on (they are selling it as a cover up for the beach???)
i thought 'oh i can dress it down for the summer', but now at home not sure how to
i can't actually wear flipflops as crappy feet
have got a big floppy hat?
any ideas? it's lovely, i can't save it just for evenings, i need to swish about in it all summer

I tried that on and I looked like I was wearing an evening dress. It is indeed lovely but I had the same dilemma. I would have worn it with flip flops but because of the way the front sits it looked SOOO formal. NOt much help am I?

CoupleofKooks · 11/04/2010 21:55

no i do know what you mean
i thought i was going to get away with it, probably fooled by fact it is described as beachwear
but showed dp at home and he said "ooh scary"

darn it, i love it, it's so comfortable and the shape is really flattering for small boobs / wrecked tummy

p.s I wouldn't worry about your feet , no one ever looks at your feet and if your boobs look as fab as mine did in it , no one will def look at your feet!!

rosieposey · 11/04/2010 21:57

wear it with sandals and chunky jewellery, this should give it a more casual look.

CoupleofKooks · 11/04/2010 22:04

yes it should shouldn't it rosie....but not 100% sure it will

y y very flattering front! bizarrely i have a pyjama top in same style and i always think i look surprisingly foxy in it so when i saw this dress i leapt at it

Oh. I see your dilemma. Fun sandals and jewellery are the way to go I think! Lovely dress!

Intergalactic · 12/04/2010 08:45

Big beach-style handbag?

cyb · 12/04/2010 08:48

on cooler days bung a denim jacket over it, a casual bag and 'team with gladiator flats' (thats the first time this year I've typed that stock fashion phrase)

You could also wear a thin cardi with it in the evenings. thats when I would wear it rather than daytime , for holiday drinks or BBQ's etc

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 08:49

i like it and i dont do long

traceybath · 12/04/2010 08:50

Well I was going to say exactly what cyb said - so yes, what she said

NoahAndTheWhale · 12/04/2010 08:54

I like the look of that. Might see if my funds run to it at some point.

CoupleofKooks · 12/04/2010 08:59

oh i didn't think you would like it su

well i have a shoe problem you see, i can only wear proper shoes (have old lady feet)
so think clarks style flats with a crossover kind of thing
but can try the big jewellery etc
and don't forget the floppy hat

it really is lovely to wear
shame they don't have in different colours, it might feel less formal in say indigo

cyb · 12/04/2010 09:04

ooh hang on couple...I think my frump klaxon might be about to go off 'clarks shoes with cross over bit..' please link to shoes so we can mock discuss them

CoupleofKooks · 12/04/2010 09:43

it can go off all it likes, i can't wear nice shoes anymore
you can mock - but i may cry - have a wardrobe full of pretty shoes that my feet are too fucked up for

geordieminx · 12/04/2010 09:47

MavisG · 12/04/2010 09:49

geordieminx · 12/04/2010 09:57

Stay away from the bleach

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 09:58

god yes
there is a dress in great Plains similar
its vile - tie dye grey

justallovertheplace · 12/04/2010 09:58

tie dye?? NO no no no no

MavisG · 12/04/2010 10:03

OK, OK, twas just an idea. Sheesh.

It's a lovely dress. And they're probably right, stay away from the tie-dyeing. Maybe dip-die with bleach? No? TAXI!

CoupleofKooks · 12/04/2010 18:30

i can see the denim jacket thing, but i don't think i can pull it off, it would feel very 80s
is there some kind of casual cardi or something i could try it with? i am not really a jacket person

shoe site interesting su, will peruse later

you are all kind, thank you!
