I want to go for a facial, but I'm not sure what to ask for

Why is there so many different things ? What do you have?

They usually have a sort of menu thing describing the options, I think. Most of it baffles me - I work on the basis of price.

My skin cack ATM but what if I go and they make it wose ?

They should be able to advise you if you describe your skin type to them either over the phone or have a consultation beforehand.

Then you get to sue them.

They usually ask you about your skin and what it's like - they're pretty clued up, so I wouldn't worry.

Just make sure it's a beauty salon you go to

My town is tiny but we've loads of salons, I'll try and ask about. I'd prefer not to have to sue

I love Dermalogica. It is the only skincare system I've found that doesn't upset my sensitive skin. Never got along with Elemis myself - essential oils etc upset my skin - though their maternity massage was the best!

I have this done a few times a year. Personally I think if you're shelling out loads on a facial it should include something hi-tech you can't do at home (Guinot Hydradermie ones are good too)

I've got a beauty diploma and most facials follow the same routine of cleanse, tone, skin analysis, exfoliate, steam, extraction, massage, mask & moisturise with some so called 'signature' element thrown in like a massage technique or application of branded cream/serum. Even before doing my course I found these standard facials disappointing and felt I could do the same at home given half hour!

Saying that most people find the experience of having pamper time away from home/kids etc worth the money so its what you want from it that matters.

If you do go for one of these a reputable salon should offer a patch test in case of reaction. Or try a mini facial and if you enjoy it go for a longer one?

Oh thanks MMC, can you recommend one for [whisper] whiteheads? They're the bain of my life.

whiteheads or milia are quite difficult to remove as unlike blackheads they can't be extracted (squeezed)as easily - are they round your eyes? Sometimes using too rich a moisturiser in this delicate area can cause them and you may need to use something more gel like or lighter consistency? Gentle exfoliation and massage help, but I think the first step is to hunt out a recommended salon and therapist and make sure they do a thorough analysis of your skin, then tailor make your treatment. Ask around and get some recommendations?

I go for aromatherapy ones

So relaxing and they always include scalp/arm/hand massage too
Skin feels great after for about 2 hours

micro derm abrasion - my lovely girl said ' maximum result for minimum outlay' so i am doing it

The best facial I've ever had involved facial massage - don't know if it was raiki or what - no clue - but it included the pressure points of the face and around the eyes. I came out looking ten years younger. No time to chase up at the moment unfortunately.

I also like a facial with acupressure. My favourite is Espa. They operate in Esporta gyms as well as their own branded salons.

If you don't already know what your skin needs it's best to book in and just ask them to judge which type of facial you need on the day.
