I literally have NO spring/ summer clothes!! Help!!!

I've lost a total of 5 stones over the last 2 years, and so I had bought some new clothes last summer. However, I tried a skirt and a pair of shorts on last night (I'm going to see my Mum in May in Portugal), and they were so big that they wouldn't actually stay up! This is a bit of a disaster! I have a VERY limited budget (I'm a SAHM, dh doesn't earn loads, and my carers allowance gets kind of eaten up by household needs!).

I have been buying bits and pieces off a friend who has a 'nearly new and vintage' business, but she doesn't have anything summery yet(she gives me 'mates rates'!)! I'm going to have to space my purchases out over the next couple of months before my trip to Mum's.

What would I need for a capsule wardrobe? I suppose the less I have to buy, the better! If it helps, I'm a size 10-12 (10 on top, 12 on the bottom). I'm always running around (dog walking, kids), I do like skirts and dresses, and I've never got the hang of heels (I'm 36, so I don't think there's any hope of that changing now!!). I have decent-ish legs (I run a fair bit - currently training for a 10k). I have jeans already, so any other ideas would be MOST welcome!!

Thank you, oh wise Style and Beauty Ones!! Save me from a summer spent in Jeans!!

A load of cheep short leggings, and then go to sainsburys when they have their 25% off weekends, which are fairly freqent, and buy tunic tops.

Thanks, Mrs Wobble (do you know - I read the Mrs Wobble the Waitress book to ds' s at the weekend!!), I may just do that. I would like to have a bit of variety as well, though. The problem is, my tastes/ new found love of clothes, far exceed my budget!! Bugger!

Places like H&Ma nd next often have some reasonably priced things, depends what you want really. White linen skirt plus variety of fitted t shirts, short sleeved black dress, all cheap and you can then make them more to your taste by adding accessories.

crumpette · 08/04/2010 09:32

Maybe some cropped linen trousers or some lightweight chino-style trousers you can wear worn rolled up or down

Well done on your weight loss!

I would buy a dress which you can then accessorize - something like this

Wedges are good if you don't like heelshere

Any Fucker linked to some lovely trews from Gap a few weeks back and they have a sale on now. Great with heels or Converse (cheap at TK Maxx atm or Sainsbury's or ones at M&S

Stripey Tee would be nice and they're everywhere atm.

Haven't seen any shorts I like!

I LOVE that dress, isthatporridge! Shame it only seems to be in an 8 or 14!! Completely misses my size! But that is just my colour, as well! The wedges are definitely worth having a look at, too. I might have to try the trousers on (I'm still completely lost when it comes to what will fit me, and trousers are a bit of a mystery!). I bought some white converse-style trainers from Matalan a couple of weeks ago, so it's nice to see I'm going in the right direction!!
Thankyou!! Keep 'em coming!
I think I might have to take a trip into town and have a look in H&M, Next and Gap (I thought Gap was really expensive, though?)

Try Primark, I've heard lots of good reports about it this season for all the summer essentials,I'm looking forward to a trip there myself next week. Always nice 'n cheap too

traceybath · 08/04/2010 20:31

Yeap - try h&m, new look, dorothy perkins and gap when sale on.

I'd go for rolled up chinos as Porridge suggests with some demi-wedges. A breton t-shirt and a dress that you can wear in the day or at night.

Some cheapy beads/stack of wooden/antique gold bangles and a cardigan/denim jacket. You could get all of that very reasonably in somewhere like new look.

Have fun and well done on your amazing weight loss!
