Am torn between being cheap and self-sufficient or lazy and hang the expense. Any words of wisdom?

Hmm, might try Veet then. Although your 'screams' comments have made me a little nervous, I must say!!!

Epilator is MUCH better than home waxing.

Less painful, less faff, cheaper in the long run.

I would go with the epilator too.

I broke myself in gently by just doing my legs, but now I do my underarms too. It's fab!

Am a fan of DIY, and also use veet strips.

But intrigued that pepilators are being recommended too - are they really less painful? And which make/model would you recommend? Am guessing it would work out cheaper than strips in the long run...

AllBuggiedOut · 08/04/2010 00:24

pepilators? What am I on about. [note to self - read posts before posting...]

I didn't find epilating my legs any more painful than waxing tbh.

It was painful the first few times doing my underarms though. I had to have a drink first, paracetemol just did not cut it!

Even then it still made my eyes water.

But now all I do is deal with the regrowth and thats not painful at all, infact its far less so than getting waxed every few weeks!

I use a Braun silkepil, but I am not sure what model it is. It has a guide light that can be quite useful.

I've not gone near my bikini line though!

BariatricObama · 08/04/2010 09:15

epilators are the way forward. don't get a cheapo one the more powerful the better.

KiwiKat · 08/04/2010 21:25

Am tempted by the epilator, but not yet brave enough. Going back to the waxing issue - how messy is it if you do it at home? Everyone at work said "oh no, painful, messy, get it done professionally", so am back to dithering, and my leg hairs will soon have to be braided ...

Strips not messy at all. Go for it!

muddleduck · 10/04/2010 16:10

Kiwi - if you are brave enough to home wax then epilating is much easier than that.

I did home waxing for years so it is fine, just not as easy as epilating.
